FYI: Nice medic alert jewelry
This is a double post to the main board:
For those of us who want/need medic alert identification, I just received my bracelet, and it is worthy of being worn as a nice piece of jewelry that is not overwhelmingly "medical".
See the web site at www.AmericanMedical-ID.com for some neat alternatives in silver, 10K g.f., 10K and 14K, including charm bracelets, dog tags, etc. Nice stuff!
Vi,
You can get the charms on ebay, and make one with your beads. I was all set to do it, but my doctor said I didn't need one unless I wanted it. He said in 2 years he's never had a patient who needed one, so I figured why bother. I have a RNY card in my wallet, and I figure if I'm out cold for something, the first thing they'll do is look in my wallet to see who I am. It is the first thing you see when you open my wallet.
That trunk show I told you about is tomorrow, so I should have at least one more pretty bauble to make into a necklace. My husband left the digital camera at work the day after Halloween, so I haven't been able to get those pictures yet, but I will soon, I promise. I would love to see some of your completed pieces. Email me. I lost 3 auctions on those swarovski crystals this wee****ep trying to get them for really cheap. Maybe it's you who keeps outbidding me?? What colors did you choose when you paid? I like the blues, purples, pinks, and greens. If I ever win one, those are what I'm going to ask for.

My surgeon's office strongly advises ALL gastric bypass patients to wear a medical alert bracelet or necklace in case they become unconscious and need medical care, and they cited two reasons:
1) You should not be intubated, unless it is necessary to save your life. Putting a tube down your throat, could damage the tender tissues that have just been stitched together inside you. Your medical alert tag should state: "Gastric Bypass Do Not Intubate".
2) You could be put on an IV containing more sugar/glucose than your body can presently handle, resulting in dumping syndrome.
They said the medical ID is critical for the first year post-surgery, and is recommended for the rest of your life.
