Hi Celia, I had surgery the same day as you. In fact I had two surgeries. I had lap rny that went "text book perfect" but then due to me bleeding so very much I had to go back to surgery several hours later and have a 9 in*****ision to try to find where the bleeding was coming from. It turns out that the staple line that usually just bleeds minimally in most was bleeding a lot in my case. I had been given lovenox prior to the surgery (to prevent pulmonary embolism) and I reacted to it by losing most of my ability to clot. So 3 blood transfusions and 3 units of plasma later I was back to SICU and doing well. To answer your questions: 1. No, I expected to wake up in pain but didn't. What I had was soreness! And that is still the case but it is better every day. 2 The staples are a bit tender but not bad. I don't see any sign of infection. 3.I have been on clear liquids. The protein mixes are disgusting and I am sick of the stuff! Be glad when I can move on to full liquids. 4. Never really dizzy. The very first time I got out of bed in SICU I needed someone to lean on a bit to get to the bathroom but after that I felt real stable altho they still helped me. 5. Somewhat. I get tired pretty easy. 6. I have not yet slept in my bed. I sleep in the recliner. I walk in the house several times a day and now venture outside and walk a bit too. I did drive the car once a short distance but just on my property and just out of necessity. I have watched a good bit of tv and read a couple of books already. I don't cook. The first few days my husband brought me my jello and stuff but now I generally get it myself. 7.No regret. 8.No 9.wonderful support 10. No. I don't have a scale at my house but I am certain I came home weighing more than when I went in. My blood pressure was low for a bit and they poured the fluids into me so....I could not make a tight fist of my hands even. But that excess fluid has pretty much gone. I see my doctor this Wednesday and will weigh there. Celia, it sounds like you are doing well! I think this is probably a unique experience for each person altho we will share similarities in some areas. The main thing is we have the help we need to get the weight off!

Hi Celia, I had my surgery on the 24th too. Here's my answers. 1) Are you in pain? No, I am doing very well now. I still can't find a comfortable position in the bed. 2) Do your incisions hurt? They don't hurt, but they itch. 3) What have you been eating? or should I say drikning? I am only drininking water and eating popscicles. The smell of broth makes me sick. I will vomit if I have to eat another tsp. of Jello 4) DO you get dizzy? NO 5) Are you weak? I get weak at night. I think my body says slow down. 6) What are you doing during the day? Do you stay in bed, walk around, go out, drive, cook?? etc... I went out and got holloween candy today. I haven't cooked only because I'm hungry. I don't want to torture myself. I walk around the house. I don't really walk outside. 7) Do you regret having had the surgery? I wouldn't say I regret it, but I will say I'm hungry. Everyone told me I wouldn't be. They lied. I know it will get better. I would have never thought I would look forward to cottage cheese 8) Was your WLS very painful? YES!!!!! I thought I was prepared because I had a c-section. It was worse. 9) Are you getting support at home? Yes, my family has been very supportive. 10) Do you feel skinnier? No. I feel bloated. Anyway, that's my story. You can email me anytime. ~~Diamond~~

Hi Diamond..! you are so right about thinking after a C-section all should be easy..I thought the same thing.. I had twins one vaginally no epidural (no time) and the other one c-section...WLS was much worse than that! But you soon forget the pain.

Hi everyone. I had my LAP RNY on Oct 24... Came home Oct 25th. Here are my answers: 1) Are you in pain? Not really... just a little uncomfortable around one of my inscisions 2) Do your incisions hurt? They are all healed up mostly, except for the big one on my left with the little plastic thingy hanging out of it. It looks really good, but kind of a little stinky smell tho. 3) What have you been eating? or should I say drikning? My surgeon says clear liquid or protein shakes for 2 weeks. I haven't really been complying, because i have been eating SF Jello Pudding. And today, I ate 2 scrambled eggs with cheese on them But it sat well.. and I am going to hold off on having any more until i absolutely can't stand it. I want to be compliant with my surgeon's rules. 4) DO you get dizzy? No 5) Are you weak? If I do too much 6) What are you doing during the day? Do you stay in bed, walk around, go out, drive, cook?? etc.. I have pretty much resumed my normal activities, driving etc... I even did my paper route last night. Of course, I haven't had any lortab elixir for 3 days. 7) Do you regret having had the surgery? I feel I wasn't really prepared for the emotional part of this surgery. I had been researching for over 2 years, thought I knew, even watched my best friend go thru it 7 months ago... boy was (am) I clueless! I am sure the regret feeling will go away. 8) Was your WLS very painful? No, I was very suprised. 9) Are you getting support at home? Yes hubby is home from work for a whole week to take care of me. He is awesome. 10) Do you feel skinnier? A tiny bit. Scale says I have lost 17 lbs. Theresa 314/280/263/145 consult/surg. day/today/someday
