I was asking the POST OPS how I could get enough protein in during these first days when it's so hard to even get in water and they suggested liquid protein that you can drink in 2 tablespoons with 15 grams of protein. Most of the ones they suggested were about $30 a bottle so I went on line and found one for $15. I haven't tried it yet, but it's coming in the mail soon so I will let you know if it's it palatable. I figured 2 tbsps would be easier than trying to choke down 3 oz of something sickenly sweet protein vial or 10 oz of a shake that would take a day to drink and only give you 20 grams of protein for the day, so I thought I would take the chance and get it! I know that the days I can get in about 50 grams of protein are definitely the days that I feel best, but it's not that easy to do 50 grams! Even 20 grams is a challenge depending on what I have! http://www.vitacost.com/store/products/ProductSearch.cfm?SearchText=twinlab+protein&x=0&y=0&SearchBy=PN

I use a protein souce called Beneprotein. It's available from Walgreens.com and is $10 per can. It's a powder that is practically tasteless, and is 25 cal/ 6 Gm protein per scoop. (30 scoops or approx 15 shakes per can) My surgeon's protein shake is 2 scoops of this along with Carnation Instant Breakfast no-sugar-added and 4 oz of double-skim milk for a total of 28 Gm protein in 4 oz. ( You make the double-skim by taking a 1/2 gal of skim milk and adding one pouch of powdered skim to it for double the protein. ) 4 oz is not easy to get down immediately post op, but 3 of these per day is more than 80 Gms protein per day. If you can sip on water or flavored no-calorie drinks, one gulp every 15 minutes, you can get almost 64 oz of fluids in during daylight hours.

Hi Again! Was it you who originally posted about Beneprotein? I remember reading that post and I ordered it from Walgreens. I'm going to go out today and get the CIB no sugar added and give that a try! Thanks hon! Vi

Hi Shrinking!!! I don't know if you're able to eat pureed yet but I found some pudding from GNC by Sylvester Stallone that has 20 gms protein for 6.4 oz with total fat of 2 g and 0 sugars and 2 carbs. The flavor I've tried is milk choc and it's not too bad, considering...I eat 2 oz 3x/day with my calcium and it helps to get my protein in. If not for this, I'd be in a world of hurt! Hope this helps you....

Hi Nancy I stocked up on his pudding prior to surgery and I'm waiting for day 14 --Thursday-- to finally have some again! Though I think I should be allowed now! LOL I'm trying hard to be a good girl and follow my surgeon's rules, though I don't get why some people have surgeon's who let them have it now and mine won't? I think they just enjoy tormenting us. Thanks! Vi

I know exactly what you mean. I'm 2 1/2 wks out and cannot get my protein in. I just gag on all this sweet stuff. I bought the sample pack from bariatriceating before surgery but can't even think about drinking a shake or nectar now. I have another 1 1/2 wks before I can have soft foods but am cheating alittle. I feel so weak and I know it's because I'm not getting in my protein. So the 2 tbls. sounds great. Keep us posted!

I got it today, it's sooooo thick and it tastes like thick gooey cough syrup but at least I can choke it down quick and get it over with! OOOOH the sacrifices we have to make. Vi
