Diane- I had lap. RNY 3 weeks and 5 days ago, and I did not feel really "well" until the exact 3 week mark. Remember that we have had MAJOR surgery, even tho the scars are tiny, the whole insides were rearranged. I struggled to keep the water and protein intake up, and am just now getting past the liquid stage, but very slowly. Now, I actually "feel" healed, but still have a less than good day occasionally. It really will take about 4-5 weeks to get back to 100%, so don't ru**** Just nap, walk daily, do your liquids, and let the body heal. We have had major surgery and though we are at home, we are not healed. My surgeon says he is not happy until all is well for about 4 weeks.....so, don't give up. The modern miracle of lap. surgery doesn't change the body's need to come back into balance. You WILL feel better. It's OK to feel icky, but this too shall pass. Congratulations on doing well so far. Keep your spirits up, and relax, refresh, and enjoy starting your new life!!! Cyndi

I am 6 months out and I know how you are feeling.. My body was in mourning.. Nothing felt right going down and I just felt icky.. Mentally I was so full of promise and hope.. that first weigh in and the 1st 6 weeks weigh in where I lost the first big chunk that I hadnt been able to for 25 yrs cemented the fact I had done the right thing. Food still ****** me off I want to swallow a steak but then I see I am in a size 16-18 that I haven't been in in 30 years and i say "oh well a small sacrifice to pay for a LIFE!!" I only eat to get the protien in so I can keep my hair. Things will get better.. you HAVE made the best decision in your entire life! I know I did. Linda

Is there alot of sugar in what you are consuming? Are you sipping slowly stretching your drinks over a longer period of time than you used to before surgery? When do you go back for your one week check-up? The reason I'm asking is that I have been home (5) days and not having a problem with my liquids. My surgeon, since I ended up having surgery for a hiatal hernia and RNY Gastric bypass has me on the clear liquid diet until I see him on Friday. I drink unflavored koolaid mixed with splenda, I drink diet V-8 berry splash (a berry flavored drink that is low in sugar) found in the juice isle and is delicious over ice, I drin**** water and sometimes chew on ice chips. For meals I drink chicken or beef broths heated w/ just a dash of my favorite seasoning added. Oh and I munch of sugar free popsicles and jello once or twice a day. Hope you get to feeling better! If you don't, you probably should call your surgeon's office. They should be able to help you. Peggy B.

Diane, I had surgery a few days before you and I'm just now starting to feel really good. I had post-op pneumonia and the coughing killed my incisions. Plus I HATE HATE HATE broth, jello, and cream of wheat. I was always hungry and everyone said I wouldn't be. Now that I'm eating solid foods I'm doing pretty good. Last week (7 days postop I tried to leave the house and made my husband bring me home after 5 minutes. Last Thursday I made it out of the house for an hour and thought I would die. Friday I made it 3 hours. Saturday I ate "real food" for the first time and made it out for the entire day. I have posted all of these facts before, but I've tried to stay upbeat. I'm a firm believer in a positive attitude is half the battle. Sure I had pneumonia, but my underwear are HANGING off my butt. The butt thing is way more important to me at this time, so I focus on that. Hope you feel better soon. Sheryl
