what to eat -- ugh

hello all. well, i am doing really well. i feel good, and i'm exercising and getting out. Today, i took my 10 mo to a playdate and met some moms and had a nice day! But..i am dreading eating. Yes, i know..baby food, cottage cheese, etc.. but honestly these things are doing nothing for me. And so tomorrow is a new day. I shall boil some chicken and puree it with some chicken broth and begin to try and MAKE myself eat. it just would be so much nicer if i actually enjoyed the food i ate vs. feeling i am force feeding b/c i know I need to eat. Can anyone relate? Share what you eat and what you like...maybe you will give me an inspiring idea!!

I feel the same way about force feeding myself. I am really having to make myself eat at this point. I thought I'd be totally fine since I went on a liquid diet three weeks before my surgery, but thus far it's not been as easy as it was in the beginning. The only thing I look forward to is jello and pudding, and I know it'll only be a little while before those aren't appealing anymore. I am trying to explore soup more, since I never was a fan. My mom made me some vegetable that's good and really easy...veg-all, tomatoes, broth, a little water; then let it simmer for a couple hours real low. I do enjoy my own kind of "WLS ice-cream." I just made a packet of carb conscious, sugar free instant breakfast, with milk then added a little vanilla pudding mix to it and put it in the freezer for about an hour before eating. Sorry I don't have a lot of advice to give you, but I just wanted you to know I completely sympathize. ~Kate

Hello Heather! I am post-op also and I am on pureed foods! I can tolerate everything, why don't you puree your food like I did, it really tastes great, and add some fat free milk, it makes it taste creamy! I had my surgery on October 12th and I am a little sore but I have not had any adverse effects yet!

Hi Heather! I had my surgery on 10/4! My lifesaver has been an immersion blender. My husband got it at Target for under $20. Foods I enjoy: *KFC mashed potatoes with gravy *Tabachnick vegetable soup (in the frozen section) I use the immersion blender to puree it into a "bisque", and it is really good. I have never liked soup! All of their soups are good. *oatmeal - pureed with immersion blender *Stallone protein pudding - from GNC *Blue Bunny yogurt - Super Walmart, sweetened with Splenda - also, I take the Vanilla Creme flavor, mix it with a scoop of chocolate protein powder, and two tablespoons of peanut butter, whip it. It makes 2-3 servings and tastes really good. *philly swirl sugar free popcicles. *Quacker instant cheese grits. *I buy bags of frozen cherries and blueberries (both are high in antioxidents and are good for healing). I put some of each in a cup, small amount of water, and a pack of splenda. I use the immersion blender to make a "slurpee". This feels really good on my throat. *I drink a lot of hot tea. This helps break up the mucous from the healing gut. I hope this gives you some ideas. Feel free to email me if you want! Take care, Ellen

REfried beans!!! Cheese sticks!!! I lived on this my first 3 months.. Hope this helps. Strawberries and banana ,scoop protien powder, ice and juicy juice.. blended.. makes a great smoothie.. Linda

Hi Heather, I know what you mean. I can't wait until I can eat solid foods. I would not eat baby food yuck! I eat refried beans with melted cheese, blended soups, cottage cheese or ricotta cheese mixed with sugar free jam, sugar free creamcicles. I try to get protien with my food so I eat soups like pea or lentil. Oh well, solids are right around the corner.

ISN'T IT FUNNY HEATHER ... BEFORE SURGERY ALL WE WANT TO DO IS EAT ... AFTER SURGERY, YOU HAVE TO FORCE YOURSELF TO EAT. "EAT TO LIVE vs LIVE TO EAT"! YOU'RE ON THE HEALTHY SIDE; THING ARE DIFFERENT OVER THERE. HOW ABOUT CHICKEN, SALMON & TUNA SALADS ... PUREED REALLY WELL BUT THAT WOULD HAV SOME NICE FLAVOR + GOOD FOODS. well gosh i feel so advanced...i am eating mashed potatoes, yogurt, rice from taco bell as well as refried beans (a little to lumpy for me though) cream of wheat, cottage cheese, cheese (cottage cheese smashed with the back of the spoon) diet fudge sickles, diet pudding, bananas i am having trouble with water, but i do well with diet snapple and tropicana diet orangeade and grape koolaid. i haven't thrown up at all and i have lost 24 lbs.. good luck (i have tried eggs and oatmeal and cannot tolerate it so that is out!!) i have also got an apple and cored it and put cinnamon, 1/4 tsp splenda brown sugar and spray butter and baked it and smashed it with a fork and it was awesome. just don't eat the whole thing like 1/4 of it do not eat the peel..cheryl
