Jitters and some not so good thoughts

Well my surgery is less than a week away and I have had a lot of people ask me if I was scared. I always replied no. Now I am not so sure. Lately I have been starting to get a lot of "what if" thoughts going through my head. And they are not the positive what ifs, but rather negative ones. I tell myself I am doing this for me and for my family. I want to be able to enjoy my 2 yr old daughter and run and play with her without getting tired. But then I think "what if " something happens and I am not even around to see her play. I know if I can just get past the negative thoughts all will be ok. Is this normal? Just wondering if others got nervous beforehand too. Thanks for listening. Tina

Tina, I think it is pretty normal. I dont have any thoughts like that. Of course I know Ill will be sore for awhile. Ya know I tell everyone I dont want to hear the bad stories, you need to go into this knowing God will hold your hand all the way thru. I promise he will. Jane

I had all those thoughts up until the morning of my surgery (the first attempt at surgery on 10/3) and it's perfectly normal, but you will DO GREAT! Keep pushing those negative thoughts OUT of your mind and focus on all the GOOD. I know it's hard, but believe in your heart that everything will be fine because it will!! Hugs, Vi

Hi Tina! I am praying that God will give you peace before your surgery and lessen the negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. Visualize yourself BEYOND the surgery -- playing with your kids, watching them graduate, get married, 'see' your grandkids in these positive thoughts. You're going to do just fine. Hugs! Sheryl in Prescott, AZ (my surgery is the 28th!)

Tina, You will do just fine. Just pray before you go into surgery and know that God bought you to it to bring you through it. I had a hysterectomy on the 16th of September and I was sooooo nervous because I had never had surgery. They gave me some " Versed" which is a miricle drug and I relaxed and next thing I know I was in recovery room telling the nurse that I felt sick. ( a side affect from the anesthesia ) They gave me something for nausea and after that I was wonderful. I have had three kids- natural birth and I will say this: medicine has some a long way. Dont be afraid, just pray about it and know that God is God. P/S: My surgery date in on the 27th so I am right behind you. Whenever I start getting bad thoughts I just focus on the positive one. God Bless and Good luck C.L

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I just love the support that goes on with this website. I am going to work hard at pushing the negative stuff out and focus on the positive. With Gods help all should go great. Someone told me that God brought me to the place so that I can make it through. That really hit home. When I put it in that perspective it isn't scary. Also focusing on my family and the positive future that we will have b/c of this surgery makes it worth it. Thanks again. Tina

You will juggle with different thoughts and moods 50 times a Day. I have my surgery on Monday and I am going though the same thing right know. I even wrote letters to my kids and husband just in case some thing should happen. I was giving good advise to sit down and write down the reasons you want to have surgery and bring them with you the day of the surgery. Because you will think to your self what the @#$* am i doing here. I even started to clean the house and closets just in case. So no you are not crazy. THE BEST OF LUCK TO YOU K.B.
