Are you getting out and walking every day? If so, how?
YES. I have been to a store of some kind with my mom everyday and doing quite a bit of walking in the stores.
ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS -
I am enjoying this website and spend almost all free time here trying to absorb all the info I can. I am struggling to drink as much as i should and the protein drinks are killing me b/c they are soo sweet!! but i will continue to try until i find something i like.
My surgery was also October 3rd.
Type also lap rny.
So, I am 8 days out now.
I have no idea how much I've lost, but I do see my surgeon and dietician tomorrow (Wed.), so I'll find out then. I am one of those that came home considerably heavier (15 pounds on my home scale) than I went in, but lost the IV weight since getting home.
I'd rate my pain at 1.
Yes, I'm walking every day. The first few days home, I walked outside, but it's been pouring here, so just around the house yesterday and the day before. I make it a point to get up and walk every chance I get, though, and it does help.
As for the liquids, I'm on 24 oz. minimum each of water and skim milk every day. I easily drink twice the amount of water (I'm still almost as thirsty as I was on the IV, before they let me drink in the hospital), but I just barely get in the milk. While I do feel head hungry, the milk isn't satisfying that hunger, nor my thirst. However, I do make myself drink it all. It's a small discipline that I'm hoping by developing now, I'll be able to carry over into the more diverse (and therefore, challenging) times ahead.
Surgery - 10/6 (last Thursday)
Type - Lap RNY
Days Post Op- 5
Weight lost since surgery - *0* I did lose some of the water and gas weight
Pain scale - 1 to 2 - I tried something new this morning. It's a topical pain patch. I wanted something that would dull the pain until the good stuff kicked in. It did a pretty good job. (It's rough sleeping with your child right after surgery.. I wish he could sleep in his own bed all night long)
Walking - I'm getting small walks in. I think we are going to go out and get some walking in today. Hopefully that will get some more gas out of my system.
Comments - Getting protein in is really tough.
Hello!
I had an Open RNY with Fobi Pouch on Tuesday, 10/4/2005.
7 days post-op
Pain level right now.... 1-2
Walking? around the house, I've done some light house cleaning and laundry, but tire easily.
Additional comments: My doctor's support group assigns each post-op pateint an "angel", who is someone who has had the surgery. My angel calls me everyday, sometimes twice, to check on me to make sure I am doing ok. My angel communicates with my doctor on a daily basis to update on all of his post op patients. I have had no problems with nausea or vomitting. I feel really good for just having had major abdominal surgery. My first post-op visit is 10/15/2005. I have not weighed myself yet.
Ellen
Hi Dawn!
The only difference between a regular RNY and the RNY with Fobi pouch is that with the Fobi, the stomach is transected rather than sutured into two separate parts. The 1 oz "pouch" if formed from the top portion of the stomach, which is less elastic. A scilastic ring is placed at the bottom of the pouch to act as a pyloric spincter would. This allows food to stay in the pouch longer, prolonging the feeling of fullness. Also, the ring helps prevent the pouch from stretching out. The intestines are bypassed in the same fashion as in the regular RNY.

I had my one week post-op today, so far I have lost 11 pounds.
Good luck with your surgery! I have no regrets!!!!!

Hello -
My surgery was Tuesday 10/4/05.
I had LAP RNY.
I am now 1 week out.
I gained 4 lbs when I got home so from my weight at home (219) to this morning (211) it's 8 lbs.
My pain from surgery is finally at 1-2, my back, tho, is getting worse. When pain meds wear off, my back is at 7-8.
I am walking on my treadmill for 30 mins every day. Started at .7 mph and am now up to 1.7 mph. I do this 2x at 15 mins each and hope to increase by 5 mins every week. I haven't actually left the house yet as my incisions (sp?) are very tender. The steri-strips they put on me were put on when my stomach was inflated and now that it has gone down, they pucker and hurt and I can't bear the thought of clothes rubbing on them. Guess I have to get over it as I have a Dr.'s appt. tomorrow and I can't go in my jammies, can I?
I'm still on clear liquid diet and doing great with the water, tho don't know if I get enough other stuff. Drink 2 glasses broth and eat 2 s/f jellos a day. Hope that's enough. Start on full liquids tomorrow so I get to drink milk tho don't know how good I'll do as I didn't tolerate milk very well prior as I have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) but I'll try it and see.
SO GLAD TO HEAR THAT YOU ARE DOING WELL (EXCEPT FOR YOUR BACK & INCISIONS). WHAT ARE YOU EATING/DRINKING TO GET YOUR PROTEIN WHILE ON THE LIQUID DIET?
I'M GOING ON http://store.bariatriceating.com/ & ORDER SOME PROTEIN DRINKS, PUDDINGS, ETC. MY SURGEON DOESN'T REQUIRE A SPECIAL PRE-OP DIET, BUT I'M DOING A MODIFIED ONE ANYWAY & NEXT WEEK I'LL GET A LITTLE MORE STRICK WITH MYSELF. DOING GOOD ON IT NOW. LOST A COUPLE POUNDS. GETTING MY "THIRST" WHICH I NEVER HAVE, SO THAT WILL BE GOOD IN FLUSHING MY SYSTEM.
8 #s IS GREAT!
DID YOU HAVE TO CONTEND WITH THE SNOW STORM I SAW ON THE WEATHER CHANNEL?
GOD BLESS YOU DAWN & NICK
Hi there Ms. Dawn...
For the first week - no protein, only clear liquids, i.e., broth, s/f jello, water, tea (decaf). I don't like tea, so only the other stuff.
This week is full liquid so I eat/drink the following as per nutritionalist:
Brkfst: 2 - 4oz. skim milk and s/f jello or broth
Snack: Sip on water
Lunch: 2 oz EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control for lunch and s/f jello or broth
Snack: Sip on water, 2 -4 oz. skim milk
Supper: 2 oz. skim milk and s/f jello or broth
My Dr. and Nut. are pretty conservative. They don't rush into working our pouches too soon which is fine with me. I haven't been hungry and my pouch hasn't hurt or anything, so I'm happy!
The EAS AdvantEdge was surprisingly good. I got Choc. Fudge and it tastes like fudgescicles. This brand is all the Nut. will approve of for now. Oh, BTW, I think I bought this at Wal-Mart.
We had to start the clear liquid diet 3 days prior to surgery to shrink our livers. I lost 5 lbs just on that alone. Dr. stated everything was easy to find and see so I'm glad I did it. It really wasn't all that hard. The hunger pains went away after a few minutes as long as no one was cooking and I didn't smell food. My family was kinda put out but they didn't mind eating out for the 3 days. Now, smells aren't an issue at all. Sometimes they smell good and sometime they stink but nothing triggers the hunger pains. I hope that stays that way forever...but I doubt it...
We missed the snow by a week...Thank God!!! Thank you so much for asking. Have to go to Denver next week for 2 wk check up so hope the weather holds up. The timing for this kinda sucks but Oh Well! We'll deal. Have been doing it for over 20 years...
Anyway, sorry so wordy. I hope this answers your questions. If not, please feel free to ask again on the boards or e-mail me at [email protected].
You're the Best!!! Nancy
