okay i just want to be certain... I was not told to be on any kind of diet before surgery.... I was only told not to eat or drink any thing the day after midnight... Should I be worried that my doc did not tell me to do that? what is the purpose of it? My surgery is Oct 12th so i dont have much time to waste!

You are very lucky. My doc has me on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks before surgery!

each surgeon is different. Pre Op diet, surgery, and post op diet. I didn't have any restrictions other than low fat and nothing after midnight. My doctor was very happy and surprised that I listened to him and kept it all low fat (surgery should have been easier.. I haven't been coherant enough to talk to him yet). Good luck girl! HUGS and Prayers!!!

my MD had me on atkins 2 weeks PREOP ( as he does all his patients). his reasoning is that it helps shrink the liver, allowing for more room and increasing the ability for the LAP surgery b/c of the extra room. I wouldn't worry at all. You just do what your surgeon said to do and you will be fine..Relax. And my personal opinion - Go out today or tomorrow and have the meal of your dreams..it won't effect a thing and you will have a LAST meal so to say..

I had no restrictions up to 2 days before. On the second day before surgery, I was to eat no raw fruits or veggies, and no cheese. Then, the day before, clear liquids and a colon cleansing regimin (much like a cleansing for a colonoscopy) in the evening. Still, that was what my surgeon wanted done, and each is different. Don't fret, just follow what your doctors tell you, and you'll be fine.

Holly- Don't worry. I'm not on one either. BUT.... the nurse did tell me to take it easy today, because when I do the Fleet is when it will be important. Less bulk means less time on the pot. Good luck to ya tomorrow! Jill

My Dr. said I could be on regular diet for breakfast day before surgery have a regular lunch but after that I needed to be on Stage II foods. It didnt matter I never ate again because the Fleet made my stomach so sick there was no way I could put something in there. Good luck Kristie Surgery 10/3/05

Hi Holly my surgery is tomorrow too. My dr. did not put me on a preop diet either. He said nothing after midnight. I feel the same way. I'm worried that I shouldn't be eating. But I checked with the nurse and no pre-op diet.

My doctor told me the same thing like yours and my surgery is scheduled for tomorrow also, for 6:15 a.m. If he/she told you not to eat or drink anything after midnight, than you should listen to your doctor and you should call him/her to make sure of their instructions b/c every dr. is different!
