Started Preop diet today
A PRE-OP DIET IS A HIGH PROTEIN-, LOW CARB-, LOW FAT DIET. IT CAN BE SOMETHING LIKE ATKINS ... ALL MEAT & GREEN VEGES ... OR IT CAN BE LIQUID LIKE HIGH PROTEIN SHAKES, ETC. IT IS BENEFICIAL IN REDUCING THE EXTRA FAT IN YOUR LIVER WHICH MAKES THE SURGERY EASIER FOR THE SURGEON & YOU.
BE CAREFUL ABOUT PIGGING OUT TOO MUCH AS SOME INSURANCE COMPANIES & SOME SURGEONS HAVE A STIPULATION THAT IF YOU ARE HEAVIER THAN YOUR ORIGINAL WEIGHT, YOU WILL BE DENIED WLS.
HOPE THIS HELPS ... GOD BLESS YOU DAWN & NICK
I started my preop diet on 10-7-05. I'm having carb conscious no sugar added carnation instant breakfast ready to drink, EAS advantage protien drinks, popsicles, broth, jello. My surgery is 10-18-05
What you may want to buy are the carnation instant breakfast either the ready to drink or the packets this is used a milk based.
For lactose free EAS Advantage, Glucerna, Atkins Advantage Shake,Ultra pure protein shakes or Isopure
Then for fluids all the sugar free popsicles, jello, diet snapple you want.
You can by the Carnation breakfasts in a supermarket. I bought the EAS at Wal-Mart it's cheaper there. You can also go on the web under allstarhealth.com, vitamins.com, etc.. to buy products they are a good deal there.
You need to have 5 of the protein drinks a day, but only 1 at a time and spread it out over the day. I have one at 9am, noon, 3pm, 6pm and about 9pm, during the rest of the day you should be doing as much fluids as you can. I was given a dietary guideline manual that says what to do and how to follow it. It's becoming my bible. Please let me know if there is anything that I can help you with.
Good luck,
Lisa J
I JUST HAD "VERY BERRY VANILLA" PROTEIN POWDER STIRRED (DON'T LIKE FOAM) INTO HOOD CARB COUNTDOWN "MILK DRINK" FROM ...

16 DAYS & A WAKE UP!!!!!!
Good for you! Hang in there, and the next 13 days will fly by......
This is a very important part of your preparation, and as the days go by you will no doubt sense that the "real" thing is here! Congratulations!
Yes, do be careful about pigging out....my surgeon would not do your surgery if you weigh in at preop holding more than your last office visit, (they actually weigh you when you show up on surgery day) because it places too much fat around the liver. One glorious meal before your bowel prep starts wouldn't hurt, but the bowel prep is not fun anyway....
And, you may end up being on a nasty clear/full liquid diet with a postponed surgery date.
