Just wanted to let everyone know that I had surgery on the 4th and am now home and doing great. Thank you to everyone who sent prayers and good wishes. They were greatly appreciated and helped tremedously! I want to encourage those who are still waiting for their date. Please don't be nervous and I'll be praying for you as I'm sure others from OH will be too. Everyone here is so great and supportive and if you have any questions or needs, please don't hesitate to e-mail.

THAT IS FANTASTIC NEWS, MS NANCY! WAS THERE ANYTHING YOU WERE SURPRISED AT? HOW IS YOUR ENERGY LEVEL? GOD BLESS YOU DAWN & NICK

I guess the most suprising thing is the pain level isn't any worse than my previous surgeries (vaginal hysterectomy, lap gallbladder, carpal tunnel). I guess I was bracing up for a lot worse cuz they're cutting something up and not just taking something out but so far...so good! Pain meds are a blessing, tho! Don't get me wrong!!! My energy level is good. I walked on my treadmill for 15 mins today and will do that again tonight. Dr. wants us walking for 30 mins/day. Will keep this up and gradually increase pace (I only walked at 1 mph - r-e-a-l s-l-o-w!!!) I don't want to rush anything. I figure it took a while to get this way, what's a few more days, weeks, or even months! Anyway, then I'll increase my time and work up to 1 hr/day. That's the plan - we'll just have to see how my body cooperates! I was walking right away. Wanted to start walking the night of my surgery but the drs orders said no walking until next day. They let me get up and sit in a chair and walk to the bathroom and that helped. The next day I was up and did one lap with the therepist and later did one lap by myself and then 3 laps with my husband. That's probably why I got to go home so soon. I was doing and feeling great. But please don't worry if you don't feel as good as I did. I am a light-weight (BMI 35.2) and in pretty good shape and have always healed pretty fast as I hate being in the hospital. Too much noise, everyone asking how you are, getting shots and pokes and everyone wanting to help...I hate it! So I get out a.s.a.p.! Use to be I'd get out soon just to smoke but now it's to get on living! Anyway - sorry this is so long. Hope this answers your questions and gives you some encouragement. If you have any more questions, please e-mail me. God Bless and Good luck and I'll be praying for you to have as easy a time as myself. Ms. Nancy!

THAT IS WHAT HAS PLEASANTLY SUPRISED ME THE MOST ... THAT WLS PATIENTS AREN'T IN "P-A-I-N" ... THEY ARE SORE & UNCOMFORTABLE & FEEL BETTER THE SOONER & THE MORE THEY WALK. THAT'S INTERESTING! AS FAR AS PRE-OP ENERGY & HEALTH ... I'M EXHAUSTED ALL THE TIME & A DOZEN PILLS A DAY KEEP ME GOING, SO I'M REALLYYYYYYYYYYY LOOKING FORWARD TO IMPROVED HEALTH. I'M OLDER (52.5), HEAVIER (279/271) & MY BMI IS (51.0/49.5) BECAUSE I'M ONLY 5' 2.5" SO WHEN YOU SAID 1 MPR = SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWW WALKING, I LIKED THAT! I CAN SEE MYSELF STARTING AT 5 MINUTES MAYBE 3 - 4 Xs A DAY & BUILDING UP. YEAH, I'LL WANT TO GET HOME LIKE "RIGHT NOW"! I WANT MY OWN THINGS AROUND ME! I DO APPRECIATE ALL THE DETAILED INFO, MS NANCY ... ONCE I FOCUS, I DON'T WAVER ... IT'S STRAIGHT AHEAD & THAT IS DEFINITELY WHERE I'M AT WITH WLS. GOD BLESS YOU DAWN & NICK PS: A GREAT BIG "CONGRATS" ON QUITTING SMOKING! I DID THAT IN MY 20s SO DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THAT NOW.
