New Here Surery Date Oct.24,2005
Hi everyone. I have not been on any message boards, though I have checked out the site and been in some chat rooms. Everyone is so supportive and nice.
After 6 months of seeing weight loss Dr. and getting tests done and 2 visits to the surgeon, my request for WLS was sent to insurance and a month later I have a date of October 24th. I was very excited but after reading all the terrible things you have all been through I guess I sould not get to excited. I feel so bad for all of you that have gotten so far only to be put on hold.. I will pray that you have b etter luck next time. I do not understand why all the postpnements are so last minuete. This life changing decission is hard enough to make.
I keep seeing advertisements for other wieght loss things (Weigh****chers, Jenny Craig etc. ) and they make me feel like such a weak lazy person. If all these people have been able to loose 70,80,100 lbs why can't I, why do I have to go to such drastic messures. God knows I have tried all the others only to loose up to 1/2 the total lbs I should and then gain it all back. I could never get the whole way.
I have so many questions and fears of the unknown. I have talked to the Dr.s and other professionals in the WL systom but you know the kind of things only those who have been through this can tell you. I don't know if I would be as comfortable with this if ev eryone on this web site were not so honest and caring. Thank you all and God Bless.
Sorry I went on so long. I will keep it short next time.
If anyone has any words of wisdom, please feel free I will take and appreciate all.
Theresa A.
Hi Theresa,
Congratulations on your surgery date!! It will be here before you know it. Try not to get too hung up on feeling guilty about not being able to lose weight on a diet. Everyone can lose weight at some point but 98% of us regain the weight plus. I've been on every diet that exists and I've lost and gained 100's of pounds. I think the point of the surgery is to have a tool to enable you to get off the cycle of weight loss and regain. There is nothing to feel guilty about. Let's be happy that there is something that has been successful for the majority of those that elect to have this surgery.
Hi Theresa,
I'm also having surgery 10/24....and it's getting closer, isn't it!!!
As for those advertisements for JennyCraig, etc.....it always says "RESULTS NOT TYPICAL".....well, what the heck!!! I'm sure if there are any others on this board that are in the advertising field, they can explain it better than I can.
As far as I can see, RESULTS NOT TYPICAL is basically saying, "give us your money, but chances are you won't get these results"......
I'm so glad that we have found the WLS "tool" to help us achieve our goals....I'm tired of spending money on gimmicks that give you false hope, only to have you disappointed.
Remember, you have your fellow October 2005 buddies to support you!!!
Best wishes,
Paula
WELCOME MS THERESA! WE'RE GLAD YOU DECIDED TO JOIN US!
"FOOOOOEY"!!!!! DON'T BUY INTO THAT BS ABOUT OBESE PEOPLE BEING WEAK & LAZY. THERE IS NOTHING FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH; WE HAVE TO BE SOME OF THE STRONGEST PEOPLE ON EARTH CONSIDERING ALL THE STRESS WE PUT OURSELVES THROUGH TRYING TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM & ALL THE ENORMOUS STRESS SOCIETY PLACES ON US!
YOU'VE BEEN WATCHING THE BOARDS HERE ... DO YOU BELIEVE THAT ANY OF THESE LADIES & GENTS ARE WEAK & LAZY ABSOLUTELY NOT! &, YOU'RE RIGHT HERE WITH US SO THERE'S NOT A PART OF YOU THAT IS WEAK & LAZY EITHER.
THE TRUTH NO ONE TELLS IS THAT CONVENTIAL DIETS HAVE A 95 - 98% FAILURE RATE ... FAILURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT SUCCESS. THAT MEANS THAT ONLY 2 - 5 PEOPLE OUT OF EVERY 100 SUCCEED IN KEEPING THE WEIGHT OFF. SO, WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT THE "DIETS" THEY ARE CRAMMING DOWN OUR THROATS? NOTHING, IN MY BOOK! IF YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE WHO YO/YO'D THEN MAYBE YOU WOULD NEED TO LOOK AT YOURSELF, BUT THERE ARE 94 - 97 OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR GROUP OF 100 WHO ARE YO/YO'ING & GETTING THE SAME FAILING RESULTS YOU ARE. I HAVE A SNEAKING SUSPICION THAT'S BECAUSE THE DIETS FAIL US ... WE DON'T FAIL THE DIETS.
NOW, LOOK AT GASTRIC BYPASS ... IT HAS AN 85% SUCCESS RATE WITH ONLY A 15% FAILURE RATE &, IN GENERAL, IT CAN BE PROVED THAT MOST FAILURES ON GASTRIC BYPASS/EATING PLAN FAIL BECAUSE THEY DON'T FOLLOW THE RULES. OF COURSE THERE ARE THOSE WITH REAL MEDICAL ISSUES THAT FAIL, BUT ABOUT 12% OF THE FAILURES ARE BECAUSE THE PERSON EATS TOO MUCH, THE WRONG FOODS, GRAZES ON FOOD ALL DAY, DOESN'T GET THE NECESSARY PROTEIN & FLUIDS, ETC. WHY DOES THIS ONE WORK? BECAUSE IT GIVES US A TOOL TO OVERCOME GENETICS, SLOW MOTABOLISM & OVEREATING. THE ACTUAL DECISION TO FOLLOW THE RULES WILL ABSOLUTELY GIVE YOU WEIGHT LOSS NO MATTER WHAT.
SO, DO YOU WANT TO TRY ANOTHER "DIET" & HOPE TO BE ONE OF THE 2 - 5 PEOPLE OUT OF 100 WHO SUCCEED??? ... OR, DO YOU WANT GASTRIC BYPASS & TO FOLLOW THE RULES & BE 1 OF 85 PEOPLE OUT OF 100 WHO SUCCEED??? THE CHOICE IS YOURS.
AS FAR AS THE SETBACKS SOME OF THE LADIES HAVE HAD, I BET MY LAST CHEESEBURGER THAT THEY WILL TELL YOU THAT THESE SETBACKS ARE NOTHING COMPARED TO THE AWFUL THINGS THEY HAVE GONE THROUGH BEING OBESE!
SO MS THERESA ... RAISE THAT CHIN UP HIGH, KICK BACK THOSE SHOULDERS & GET READY FOR THE GREATEST SUCCESS OF YOUR LIFE! CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR SURGERY DATE, GIRL!
GOD BLESS YOU DAWN & NICK
October 24th here, too! I have to start a two-shake-a-day and a protein-heavy dinner on Monday. My surgeon wants me to lose 10 by then - I hope that 2 week diet will do it. (He won't cancel if I don't make it.) I'm not too nervous yet, but I'm sure it will happen! It's coming soon - good luck to all my birthday buddies!
Brenda
I'm the 24th too!!!!! I can't stand the waiting. I can hardly sleep. Everything has gone so smoothly it's so nice. I've isolated myself because I haven't wanted to hear the expert advice from all the size 5's telling me what I need to do to lose weight. I can lose weight alright! I just can't keep it off. I was a little apprehensive at first with the whole idea that I could even quailify for the surgery. My BMI is 38.8. But, it is too much for ME! I hurt everywhere and I'm boardline with every co-morbidity a person can have. it was the last ray of hope for me.
