Hey there. My surgery is October 21st. I had to quit smoking too. I have smoked since I was 14 and I'm 29 now. It is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I used the patch and was doing quite well, until I found out that when I have my blood work they don't want me to be on the patch for at least two weeks and then until the surgery is over. Sooooo I was on the 21 mg patch for 2 1/2 weeks, had to skip the 14mg patch and now I'm at 7mg till Sunday. I feel like I'm going crazy not being able to smoke, but what's the point of going thru surgery to get healthy if I smoke when all is said and done. It's just hard that I didn't get to do the full treatment, but the thought that the surgery is only 1 month and 24 days away keeps me motivated. I still wonder if after surgery I'll slip up though.

Way to go on quitting smoking! I'm also an October 3rd'er. It's really getting close now. I can't stop thinking about it. It's almost hard to concentrate on anything else. Not in a bad way, but it is kind of taking over. I'm starting to prepare for my homecoming with my new tummy. I've prepared my advance sick leave paperwork. I've told everyone that I'm having my gallbladder removed. This is partially true. My gallbladder will be removed during the surgery. Have any of you told anyone besides immediate family what your plans are for 10/3? Cheryl

I work for my HMO so I just told them the truth. A couple of people in my company have had the gastric bypass and my immediate supervisor as well as over half the department are nurses, so I rely on them for medical advice sometimes... LOL... besides you never know when I need to call one to come over and change a bandage or something... I go through periods of being excited and then being scared to death. I keep thinking "this time next month..." and then thoughts like "I'll be on my way to losing weight" or "I won't be eating this cheeseburger"! Someone asked me at work today if I was excited and I said I am both excited and scared to death!
