Hernia Surgery
Alas, I find myself on the threshold of the hosptial once again. My surgery is scheduled for September 1st at 7:30 a.m. I'll be in the hospital for up to three days. It's been almost a year since I had WLS and I really don't want another surgery but it's inevitable! I have a hernia that bulges out like an alien baby in my belly. It's driving me crazy. Doesn't hurt but is constantly there, in the way. I want it gone so I can wear pants more comforatably around my waist!
At first he was going to do it laprascopically but he's now decided that it would be best to open me up again (using the same incision line as my last surgery). That way he can put in the mesh, reattach something and remove scar tissue from my first incision. Hopefully, he can do a little tummy tuck in the process?
Anyhow, keep me in your prayers!

Hi Peggy,
I just had hernia surgery on July 12th! I had an extremely large hernia in my lower abdomen from a previous c-section. The doctor told me at the initial appt. that it was very large. Then, he told me after the surgery that it was larger than he expected. Anyways, the pain was bad for about the first week, then it was ok. I did have some complications, but I'm feeling better these days. Hopefully everything goes smoothly for you! I had an open RNY and an open surgery for my hernia repair and I would say the pain was similar just different location. I also had mesh. My pants do fit better and I went down one size. Mine also didn't really hurt, just stuck out like crazy and put pressure on my back! Good luck to you and keep us posted! We'll keep you in our prayers!

Just saw your post and wanted to let you know I am thinking fo you and I am in the same boat. I have had a hernia for the last 5 years and no one would fix it until I lost weight in my belly. Well I have lost weight ( not enough) but it is now causeing problems and I am having it fixed on Aug.25th. Glad to hear that Someone else had an ok time with it and I know both of us will be fine.
hernia buddies go forth
Good luck, jennifer

We hernia people need to stick together! Just like WLS I have days where I stress over another surgery, but I know it has to be fixed and better now before it gets worse. I really am looking forward to the bluge in my belly being gone so i can snap my favorite pants with ease. And I'm hoping that I'll lose a little more of this weight during the recoup time. I can dream anyhow!
Keep me posted and if you wanna talk just give me a shout!

Peggy - I will keep you in my prayers. My hernia experience was very different. Mine caused signififcnat pain and i ignored it for about 10 hours, finally when I started throwing up my hubby called my surgeon - we went to the emergency room about 2am and I was in surgery by 7:30 am. It was bigger than the CT scan showed. I did well after it though. I was extremely motivated my daughter was graduating from high school that week. My surgery was Wed am and I went home Thursday. I really didn't think that it was so bad. I knew that I had to walk walk walk so I did. It is amazing how much eaiser it was to get up 100+ less pounds. I was back too my desk job the Monday after the surgery 1/2 days. I will keep all of you in my prayers - I think in some ways mine was eaiser - I didn't have much time to think about it.

Hey, Ann. Was your hernia surgery laprascopic or open? I have to have mine open because there is something he needs to sew back together plus he wants to remove alot of scar tissue from my emergency surgery last November. Curious because I would like to know how long to expect to be off my feet.
