Topic: RE: getting a lil worried
Hi Deborah I know exactly how you feel! I actually wrote a concerned e-mail to my doctor in April because since January I had "only" been losing about 8 lbs per month (which I thought was normal) and now suddenly I am losing about 15 lbs per month. The weight is practically falling off. My upper half is getting all boney while my stomach and thighs are all skin The last time I weighed this "little" I was 11 years old. I am not below my doctor's goal (not even near it yet) but I really didn't think that I would lose this much or this fast. Now I wonder where it's going to end I guess that this is a normal reaction for us. Since we have never been so "thin" (at least not as grownups) this is probably just so new to us. At least that is what my doctor told me. He told me to up my protein and try to make it to 1200 calories per day. I am taking in apr 1000 now. I was wondering about something else, have you had trouble with bruising? I have been bruising so much these last few months that I have almost become concerned. I also feel numbness in my butt and my feet when I sit a lot. I have a hard time in my bed as I don't like it when hard surfaces come close to my bones (my back bones or my rib cage). Do any of you have similar problems? Anyway, enough for now Good luck to you all Kolla 304/183/140

Topic: getting a lil worried
hi there I cant beleive i am typing this but here goes. Is anyone else here starting to get concerned about when the weight loss will stop? I was a lightweight starting out and had only about a hundred to loose. I am now past that and now getting to the point wehre i am a lil concerned. I am now smaller than before i had kids. I weight what i did when i was 14 or 15 now. Im amost 6 feet tall and havea larger bone structure and size ten feet. I am now a size 10 to 12 which is well skinny for me. People are starting to ask are you planning on loosing more waot. And saying if you get any smaller and turn sideways no one will see you. My family doctor is saying she is going to send me to a nutritionalist cause she is starting to get concerned. I am just over 8 months out and im still loosing like 15 lbs a month. Its been 15 a month since my second month out. First month out was like 25 i think then steadily 13 to 18 lbs a month after that. My plateaus have been a week or two at the most. But ive yet to have a stall or anything that i would even think of calling a real plateau. I dont know if its that im not eating enough or what. My family says i dont eat enough to keep a bird alive. For breakfast i had 1 and a half slices of bacon a glass of milk half peice of toast with cheese on it and half a hard boiled egg and i was stuffed. Dinner was 3 chicken wings and maybe three spoons of mashed potatoes and four peices of cooked carrots. Does the above sound like about what you guys are able to eat or are you able to eat more? I looked up and to keep my current weight id need to eat 2227 calories thats without excersizing. I eat no where near that. I think i may come in at 1000 calories a day. Im literally skin and bone through my shoulders and chest area and hips> The only part that isnt bony is my stoache and i think that all skin there. Soooo i was wondering if anyone else is wonderng the same thing. Anyone else getting a lil worried ? When does it typically slow down? any help apprecitated thanks deborah gale nova scotia canada

Hi Nan, We talked about this at one of our meetings. Someone said that if you answer like--well 50 pounds and 50 more to loose--to somepeople this is a turnoff and they typically won't ask again. And to be honest-we all need the positive reinforcement to keep going. This woman had suggested--Thanks for noticing. Yes I have lost a considerable amount of weight. Keep rooting for me. I know personally When people ask me what size--I answer them (somewhat truthfully) that I'm not really sure--for I haven't been this "small" in many of years--so I don't really know. I hope these help--and it was a great topic at our meeting. Joan

Nan, I feel the same way... You know I do not have a clue what to say except thank you with a smile, but on the inside I feel Damb, I don't think I looked a "mess" when I was 319lbs.. I always looked my best, every thing I wore was black shirts, and dark blue fitted jeans.. I wear the same now only they are a 14 soon to 12 jeans.... Its like people say " you have lost weight" Like I do not already know.. Why must people point that out every time they see me (US) a coworker of mine who works at a different site comes once a week to mine and she said last week that I m the hot moma of the org... I felt weird... anyway i wish people would stop already... I do feel very happy , as before I felt i don't know maybe trapped, I wasn't abte to go bike riding and so on as we all here know... I m so thrilled that every thing has gone well. and I hope to be at goal but im not overdoing it... I have never been skinny and dont know if I really want to be, i just want to feel comfortable and i believe that my body will stop loosing when its supposed too. thanks Nan for posting your message, i have been feeling this way too... peace kathleen

Topic: RE: Do you feel like your failing?
I know how you feel although I realize that in my own experience I am losing the wieght right on schedule there are still times that I feel or am afraid of failing., I guess after being on so many diets and failing at them there is a constant fear that I am going to eat something wrong and that my weight loss will stop before I want it to, or that I will gain it back. I can eat chips a lot easier than I can eat foods that I should, some meats lay heavy on my stomache, and I have had to resort to adding a protein drink in order to get the protein that I need. It seems hard to try to eat enough food to get the protein my Dr said that I needed. It in fact for me is easier sometimes if I don't eat at all, but that isn't healthy. I think these worries and fears are something that all of us have to face. I avoid eating snacks or when I do eat the ones that are of a better choice. I eat Pop Corn a lot. some people can tolerate things that others might not be able to. I still don't drink carbonated beverages, and really don't miss them anymore. I didn't find out how much protein we were supposed to be taking in per day untill last month, and in that instance I have fallen short, and am blessed that inspite of for the first five months only getting about 20 grams per day all of my blood counts were normal. I am seven months post op and I am still not having to take any B-12 although I probably will have to start that soon. If I can say this to encourage you. as long as you are losing weight whether it is at a fast pace or slow pace, that is the main thing that you are losing, and there will be plateus from time to time but don't give up it will all fall in place as time progresses.

Nan At first I got embarrased and did not know what to say. Now my standard answer is "Thank you for noticing. I have lost xx#'s". I don't look at their comments as I looked bad before. It depends on the person if I go into the WLS spiel. Enjoy the journey! Sheryl 334/205/180

Hello Nan, I do not have any problems with the compliments, I just smile and say "you are to kind". When a small person compliments me (maybe a size 10 or 12) I say " Thank you, I want to be as small as you" that usually make them blush, lol. Just enjoy the compliments as they will not last all that long. Take care, Janice

I FIND THAT I HAVE A HARD TIME WHEN PEOPLE TELL ME HOW GREAT I LOOK NOW. I KNOW THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY TO WLS PEOPLE, BUT I DON'T LIKE TO HEAR "WOW YOU LOOK GREAT, HOW MUCH WEIGHT HAVE YOU LOST", I GUESS I FEEL LIKE SAYING I WASN'T BAD LOOKING BEFORE, YES I WAS FAT BUT I LOOKED GOOD THEN. I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE FEELS FUNNY WITH THE GOOD COMMENTS PEOPLE MAKE? I REALLY DON'T SEE THE BIG CHANGE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE DOES. I STARTED AT 357LBS(HOLY S*&%) NOW I AM 225LBS, I FEEL GREAT AND HEALTHY NO MORE ARTHRITIS PAIN OR ANY OTHER ACHES. I HOPE EVERYONE IS DOING WELL. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ALL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE COMMENTS OR IF I'M THAT STRANGE!!!! THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT. NAN
