Topic: RE: Still Losing ??
I went from 382 lbs. to 188 lbs at present. I was as low as 180. I have definitely stopped losing but also can eat so much more It seems like my appetite is back but I know it's really head hunger. I still have not conquered that and will probably have lifelong battle with that. I would like to lose another 20 lbs. but would be happy to maintain @ 180. I am going for hernia repair and tummy tuck next week. Looking forward to that but a little scared of another surgery
I, too, need to start exercising more, but that will have to wait until after surgery.
I guess we're all pretty much in the same boat.
Best to all,
Nancy
Topic: RE: Still Losing ??
I stopped losing weight 9mos ago. Started at 377, now down to 230. In my opinion, we are def to a point that it takes exercise, exercise, exercise to lose the remaining weight. I wish others would post on here. I think most of us are either at goal or have stopped losing. Although I am not where I want to be scalewise, I can't complain. I haven't gained a pound in 9mos. I have NEVER maintained weight before. It was always lose weight, gain weight..........my body is getting used to this. I don't think I will ever see the "magic" size 8.....but I sure wouldn't consider myself settiling at a size 12! Take care......

Still have more to lose -
370/212 - and shouldn't have Plastics until getting to 180.
Its taken a loooonnnngggg time to lose these last couple of pounds and I think that I'll have to do some cardio to get more weight off.
How are others doing ??? Do you still have more weight you need to take off ????
Do you think you'll get it all off ?
Topic: RE: I feel like I can eat so much food...
thank you thank you thank you. I've gained 12 lbs and am FREAKING!
My clothes are getting tight and I'm beating myself up which makes me eat, slip into past bad habits and say real negative thing about myself.
I didn't lose all that much during the 18 month "honeymoon" period to begin with (not my fault, just age and the way my body metabolizes) so I can't afford to gain ANYTHING!
I'm soo glad I'm not alone Let's all check back in a month, even if we didn't succeed to lose all (or any) of the weight! I really need all your support since our support group no longer meets!

Topic: RE: Is anyone else struggling in here???
I would be interested in a daily menu post. I'd love to see what other people are eating. My little indulgence - those little white powdered donuts. I can eat two or three at a time with no problem. The problem - I eat two or three at a time two or three times a day. At 230 calories a pop, there's an extra 600+ calories in my diet. And I wonder why I'm up 5 pounds. I threw the rest of them away because no one in my family needs them. I've got a three and a half year old daughter I'm trying my hardest to help learn healthy eating habits from early on so she doesn't go through what I've gone through. She's gaining more than the recommended 2 to 3 pounds a year for her age. I worry so much about her. She wants the bad foods and getting her to eat the good foods are a challenge. She'll go hungry rather than eat anything she doesn't like. Last night I sent her to bed with nothing to eat because she wouldn't eat her fish and baked potato. She wanted cashews. Not that cashews are bad for her, but that can't be her meal every night.
Any way, I feel like I'm struggling for myself and my family. I drink with my meals. I eat when I'm not hungry and I eat things I'm not supposed to. But I do stop when I see the scale go up. I could see the scale go down if I'd do that all the time instead of just when I see it go up. *sigh* This is going to be a life long battle.
Topic: RE: I'm a year behind you all but I have a question/concern
Greeleygirl,
That's right in line with my experience. Around 8 months to 12 months there was an increase in the amount I could eat and wanted to eat. I was probably getting around 1200 calories then. Now at 19 months post op I eat about 1800-2000 a day and I'm maintaining. I need to drop my calories and lose a few more pounds, but it's a matter of will for me.
Just remember that you won't eat 2 oz of food forever. When you do eat, make sure you eat your protein and healthy veggies and fruits first. Whatever you do, avoid the snacking and grazing. Those are bad habits that are quickly reclaimed and so hard to break. It might not be a problem for you now, but it will be a problem for you in the future if you let it sneak back into your diet.
And to help your fears, I'm almost 20 months out and I can't eat "normal" portions and I feel like I eat alot. For example, yesterday we went to ChickFilA and I had a grilled chicken sandwich and fries. I only ate half of the sandwich and half of the fries and it was too much because I was stuffed and miserable. Basically, it's not what you can eat at once (you can't eat that much) it's how much you eat over the course of a day.
Hope that helps,
Lily
Topic: RE: I'm a year behind you all but I have a question/concern
Ever since the surgery I have been able to eat more and more and now I have to watch myself closely. About a year out I started to weigh my food just to get a general idea on how much I should be eating.
The main thing is to follow the rules, protein first, don't drink with your meals or at least 30 min after. It is a large advantage if you are able to exercise as well.
Some of my fat friends think that I have chosen the easy way out but this certainly isn't easy. Still it beats lugging around 180 extra pounds It's definately worth the battle!
Good luck

Not sure how much this will help you but....................
I can only eat 1 small chicken breast at one meal too, I am 20months out. The more dense/grainy the meat the less I can eat. That is how you can tell the size of your pouch. Now if you give me pasta, I can eat 10-12oz as it is soft and can push right on thru my pouch. BUT, I am also starving an hour later and hear the hunger grumbling in my stomach. My doc says I can start drinking again 30minutes after my meal. I try to wait closer to 1hr to help my hunger. If you are only eating a chicken breast at a meal, you need to be adding in snacks of fruits and veggies throughout the day. Just make sure your day doesn't turn into one loooonnnggg meal. Hope this helps you out a little.
Topic: I'm a year behind you all but I have a question/concern
Hi guys!
I had my gastric bypass on October 13, 2005. Since you all have one year on me, I thought maybe I would see if what I'm experiencing is normal. This past few weeks, it seems as though I can eat way more than what I could from last month. It scared me because last night I was able to eat one small chicken breast at one sitting. I'm trying hard but it's like my body is signaling to me that it's hungry and can have more. My surgeon is wanting me to eat more too, he says that I need to be eating between 1200 to 1500 calories. I am sooooo frightened that I'm going to gain weight and eventually eat the normal sized portions of food instead of small ones. I swear the rumblings that I get from my stomach is hunger and not something else. Did any of you experience this at 8 months out or am I being paranoid?? Any comments that you have will help. Thanks so much!
Topic: RE: I feel like I can eat so much food...
Well, I stopped weighing myself quite a few months ago and I have been feeling like I can/have been eating larger portions ans snacking on bad foods. Yesterday, my mom told me I look like I have gained weight so this morning I got on the scale and I have gained 14 pounds! I cried. So I dug out my food scale and my measuring cups and logged onto FitDay.com and planned out my whole day. I am planning to cut out most carbs (something that has been out of control lately, I admit) and exercise MUCH more. I guess when I hit my goal I decided I didn't have to work at this anymore. Lesson learned. Glad to be back for the support here at OH.
Jenn
and just for reference, by larger portions, I am talking - an entire english muffin with peanubutter on both halves, a whole snadwich, a cheeseburger, a GOOD cup to cup and a half of pasta or casserole (I cook lots of chicken or beef casseroles with rice or noodles) a whole snack size bag of chips, an entire Little Debbie snack - any kind.......gee, wonder why I've gained? LOL
