Topic: Anyone else NOT get released???
At your one year check up with your surgeon -- is there anyone else that hasnt gotten released from checkups? (other than the once a year weighins)
I'm a little bummed about that. I went through all of the appointments doing pretty good, throughout the year, and then on the last one, my surgeon told me that she wanted to see me again in 6 months. She thinks I may be anemic. (never had that problem before, that I know of)
I had to see her assistant on the appointment that I had had prior to the 1 year check up. I wonder if I would have found out earlier, had I waited on her to come in the office that day, as she was running late.
I've upped the vitamins to 3 a day, and have to take Thiamin or B-1 now, too .... then she wants blood work done a few days before I go back to see her. ...just wondering how "normal" this is??

Do you attend any support groups in your area? I found those to be MOST helpful in the first year ... I am still going, in fact.
Hang in there, and just try to get back on track and focus on the things that you know you should do ... I know its hard, once you lose steam ... but we are in this together!

Topic: RE: Yo !! Anybody in here ???
Hi ... I'm still here ... just dont get the time to post much, lately, now that I can only get online from work.
I'm doing pretty good. Stuck pretty much at the 130lbs lost now ... gain a few - lose a few ... story of my life. haha
Waiting on next appt for another endoscopy so they can check on the ulcers that I had. Hopefully all have healed up now, and nothing else is wrong.
I plan on going to the surgeons Christmas party, AND looking sexy this year!! Went last year, but hadnt lost too much at that time .... (the St. Vincent surgeons have a Christmas party for all of their patients each year)
Nothing else new to report right now .....

Oh my gosh Jenny!!!!!....this is exactly me!!!! I had surgery for a bowel obstruction 2 months ago. I live in El Paso but my doc is in Dallas...10 hours away! I went through tthe same horrible pain you describe day after day for about a month. You need to get this taken care of immediatly. I dont want to scare you but when my doc did finally see me, he did emergency surgery the very next day!!!! He said that it was a life or death thing. So dont freak out but go see your doc immediatly. I am praying for you.
Take care,
Laura
Topic: RE: Gained 6 pounds!!!!!
I think it may be expected - the body needs time to adjust after losing the large quantity of the weight. It's been happening to me, too - it seems at about the 10 pound mark. However, I usually find I'm getting too much salt, not enough water and when dropping salt, drinking more fluids and adding more protein - the weight loss has started up again - even though not as dramatic a drop as experienced before.
Something else - I'm now at a set-point - a weight I was stable at for a time on the way up to the top weight. I'm wondering if you are at a former set point you may have experienced on the way up the scale?
I think the body will find that point again and seems to want to hover up and down around that particular spot. I'm hoping it will drop down from that point at some ~seems like dreadfully long~ time when we're so used to losing quicker after the WLS. It seems like a lot of the Thanksgiving foods also have a lot of SALT in them causing fluid retention. I've noticed -since watching the scale too closely - that once the water is released - I can drop a LOT on the scale. Big loss - if you keep the fluids moving through your body. I know we've all heard that before - but it seems to be true.
If I'm not mistaken, just 1 gallon of water weighs 8 POUNDS !! It COULD be all water weight. Don't give up yet - try to look at the long haul. I'm trying to do the same but wi**** would happen as quickly as it did during the first 6 months.
Hang in there

Hi Laura,
This is "normal", I guess. I am gaining and losing the same 3-5lbs the past month or so. Before that, I had been stuck gaining and losing a previous 3-5 lbs for about 3 months. I hate it. I too, am trying to avoid the sweets - its hard around the holidays. And especially now that I am so far out, the sugar isnt affecting me too much anymore. (sigh) We just have to keep pluggin on, and try to focus and stay on track. Good luck!

OUCH! that sounds really painful.
I'm sorry I don't have any info to help. I think you sould get better help than that ER. That kind of pain is scary an dangerous.

Topic: RE: Need Help Getting back on track
Yes, it can be very hard to stay on track.
Just ask yourself, do these foods tast as good as slim would feel?
I'm glad you got back on track the last couple days. Definately a good start.
Take it one day at a time and remember you are in control of what you eat, although at times I felt that food controled me. Now I don't like being controled. I actually talked out loud to foods I was tempted by and told them off. I said this is it guys, Your not controling me any longer, find yourself a new best friend cause I'm done with you. Then I found better friends, exercise and hand crafts. Keeping busy has really helped me.
I had open RNY Oct 8,2004 ( chocolate still gets to me sometimes)
Best of luck to you. If you need to talk to a fellow former junk food junkie just send me an email.
