I am so sorry to have heard of Hughlene Gray's death. I did not know her but I express my condolences to the family and friends. I had my surgery Oct. 6th in Charleston SC with a wonderful doctor. Dr. Sabback. I have not started my protein yet or my vitamins. I am taking my iron pills. After seeing this I think I need to get on the ball. Again I am so sorry to hear that she lost her life.

Hi guys! I just found this message board and want to join in if that's okay. I had my duodenal switch surgery on Oct. 1, 2004. I'm VERY happy so far with my progress and how easy life seems to be without miserably thinking about how fat I am and what can I do about it all the time! This is so easy that it all seems too good to be true and I am afraid I am going to wake up and find out this has all been a dream! Anyway....this is what I've eaten today.... B - 1/2 Tuna Salad sandwich (I never eat breakfast for breakfast) S - 1 small baked sweet potato and a handful of cashews a little later. L - 2 tacquitos dipped in picante sauce and queso dip My next snack will be a protein bar. D - will be grilled Kabobs with steak and onion and zuccini and yellow squash. Before bed....usually a yogurt. I drin****d tea all day and can't get the hang of water...but I drink a ton of iced tea! Hope that works! And I snack on nuts all throughout the day. Sometimes mixed nuts....sometimes peanuts....sometimes pistachios (sp?) .....right now....I have a hankerin' for cashews! YUM!!! Lisa 262/190/135 -72 lbs 3 1/3 months.

My sister (3 yrs post op) gave me this advice when I was upset that my losing had stopped... If you are taking your vitamins, drinking your water, eating the correct food, & getting some exercise then don't sweat it. Your body is in survival mode and will hang onto every oz it can til it is forced to use its reserves. There will probably be MANY plateaus, but don't let the scale scare you. The weight will come off if you are following the rules. She lost over 300 lbs & knows what she's talking about. CE

By looking at your profile and trying to estimate --Looks like you started out lighter than me. Morning of surgery I was 266. I have lost 63. The smaller you are the slower you lose. Thats what I have heard anyway. A girl in my support group had hers 1 week after me and has lost only 40 pounds. But she was 229 on her surgery morning. I think this is probably what is going on. My doc says its good to be a slow loser. Helps the skin from being as saggy. So, thats a good thing... I havent lost anything in about 2 weeks. I dont know if its a plateau or my birth control. Doc just took me off of Nuva Ring and I put the patch on this morning. He said I am retaining fluid from the Birth control. Its frustrating. But what can I do??

Ya, I wish I could have resisted that chicken skin though - it was 10 grams of fat right there!!! I have tried a couple of low carb cereals - one is called Carb Well from Post and literally tastes like cardboard. I was hesitant to try the Special K, but I love cereal. Its good - I have to add Splenda to it...but the crunch is wonderful and the taste is not bad at all - especially when I add blueberries or a half of a banana. In fact...I am about to go have some right now.... Here is the nut. info if you like: 3/4 c serving - 100 calories 3 fat 9 net carbs (14 total carbs) 5 gr fiber (this has been helping SOOOO much - I went from going maybe once a week to EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!) 2 sugars and 10 protein! And of course, its got a bunch of viatmins and minerals too. I am so surprised at myself for, at only 3.5 months out, already falling into some bad habbits and needing to "recommit". I always thought once I had this surgery, I would be so strict and do everything the dr and nutritionist said. Its so easy to slip back into old ways, huh? You are doing fabulous - I only had surgery 1 day before you and you have blown me away by 20 pounds! I have only lost 45 since surgery date, 65 since I began the process. Way to go - any tips?? jenn

Hey those numbers look good. I dumped real bad on cereal once so I havent tried it again. But that cereal you had looks pretty good. I have switched from skim milk back to whole milk and tolerate it a lot better... plus it doesnt make me gag. Those Smart Ones Meals look good too. You did great on your protein! -63
