I feel like I can eat so much food...
Hello everyone!!! I am about 18 months out and I am feeling like I can eat so much food. Does anyone feel this way too??? I can almost eat normal portions of food!!!! But I still dont eat many carbs like bread or pasta or crackers. This is really freaking me out and I dont want to start gaining. I am finally joinning a gym so I am just now starting to work out. I am just so scared to gain. But lately I seem hungry all the time.
Help please!!!
Laura
Hi Laura, I feel the same way...kinda scary...It seems like I eat all day long...cant eat alot at one time..but I'm always snacking. Stay away from the pastas and the breads...ice cream doesnt agree at all. I can eat regular candy and probably eat too much of it...not chocolate but hard candy, I swear I crave it. I also weight myself everyday since bypass surgery and if I see that scale go up at all...i watch it big time. Not going there again..or i hope not. My portions seem to be getting bigger as well.

Thanks so much for your responses!!! I am glad to hear I am not alone in the way I am feeling. I wonder if it is possible to lose 10 more pounds this far out. I think if I can do that then I would be happy. Then again, keeping it off is the hard part. It seems like I go up five and then down five then right back up.

Hi everyone, I'm so happy to have read your post because I've been freaken about this too. At times I feel like I can't get enough to eat throughout the day and other times I'm not that hungery. I think I know what my problem is, I haven't been drinking enough water! Yep that is it for me. I was very good in the beginning drinking Propel and tap water and now I'm lucky to get 2 glasses of water a day. So today Im off to Costco to buy a case of Propel. I remember how much fuller I was when I was drinking more water. Hope it works for you too. Terry (Tee)
I wonder if you're truly eating as much as you think you are? It's been so long since we've had "normal" portions that anything beyond the usual tiny amounts might feel that way.
I've found that I've been more "head hungry" of late, but when I actually try to eat what I thought I wanted, I'm unable.
I also find it (oddly) reassuring when I do need to dump! It reminds me that the surgery is still working!
If you truly do think you may be eating more than you'd like, start weighing your food again --just to see. Take your portion first and then just find out exactly what it is. If it really is more than you should have, you'll know what kind of modification you need to make. But my guess would be, if you're having at all the same experience as I am, that it's not really as much as you fear.
Hope that helped,
Julaine (down 150 pounds so far!!!!)
Well, I stopped weighing myself quite a few months ago and I have been feeling like I can/have been eating larger portions ans snacking on bad foods. Yesterday, my mom told me I look like I have gained weight so this morning I got on the scale and I have gained 14 pounds! I cried. So I dug out my food scale and my measuring cups and logged onto FitDay.com and planned out my whole day. I am planning to cut out most carbs (something that has been out of control lately, I admit) and exercise MUCH more. I guess when I hit my goal I decided I didn't have to work at this anymore. Lesson learned. Glad to be back for the support here at OH.

and just for reference, by larger portions, I am talking - an entire english muffin with peanubutter on both halves, a whole snadwich, a cheeseburger, a GOOD cup to cup and a half of pasta or casserole (I cook lots of chicken or beef casseroles with rice or noodles) a whole snack size bag of chips, an entire Little Debbie snack - any kind.......gee, wonder why I've gained? LOL
thank you thank you thank you. I've gained 12 lbs and am FREAKING!
My clothes are getting tight and I'm beating myself up which makes me eat, slip into past bad habits and say real negative thing about myself.
I didn't lose all that much during the 18 month "honeymoon" period to begin with (not my fault, just age and the way my body metabolizes) so I can't afford to gain ANYTHING!
I'm soo glad I'm not alone Let's all check back in a month, even if we didn't succeed to lose all (or any) of the weight! I really need all your support since our support group no longer meets!

I have never posted here, but I get the OH magazine and it's wonderful, so I thought I try it out.. My usual forum doesn't have a lot of long time graduates, so they can't quite comprehend my concerns. My RNY was 10/27/04 and like many of you, I have regained a little weight- about 14 lbs........ not that much, but enough to scare me. I can eat pretty much anything and in much larger portions than I should be able to consume..... I do not dump. I wish I had that eat one more bite and its coming up feeling, but I lost that long ago. I feel like my tool isn't working as well as it should. A scope showed everything was fine, so it is me! I am glad to see I am not alone with these issues. I tried the 5 day pouch thing, but that did not help. Any other suggestions?

I have the same problem for 4 yrs my weight was down from 317 to 170. Then this last year I've gained 50lb. I can eat more and most things. I still have problem with noodle type food. I feel like I've given up now. I don't have the will power to fight and that's what got my weight above 300. I wish someone could tell us how to motivate ourselves.
Betty J:
My weight has been at 192 or so for a year or more. (5'8"). One day, the scale jumped to 200. I swore I would never let that happen again. I have lost about 4 lbs and holding at 197. I want to lose another 20 lbs. When I told my bariatric team about my concerns, they suggested I do a food diary and come in to see the dietician. I am not one who likes charts, so I just cut back my portions, even though I feel hungry (haven't felt that in a while, so I was overeating). I satisfy the hunger pangs by drinking beef or chicken broth and extra water. I started exercising more, so we'll see what happens. I may go back to a modified liquid diet (like preop) for a few days to jumpstart things. Maybe this will help you. Keep trying. You have come to far to give up now.
Thanks for posting. It helps to know there are others in the same boat.
