Hi guys~ I had my surgery 10/13 and within the first 4 weeks was down 55 lbs. Now since then I have only lost another 10 for a total of -65. Now I am extremely happy about the overall loss, but am extremely worried that I have only lost the 10 in 4 mos. I eat right, get in all my fluids, exercise. I really dont know what to do. My doc says I am right on target, but it doesnt seem right. I have a friend who had surgery the same day and we were neck & neck and now she is blowin me away, she loses at a steady healthy pace.... Please dont take that as me seeing it as a competition, that is the furthest thing from my mind! I just need to step this up some how so I lose more than 2.5 lbs a month! I would be extremely happy if it was even 5 lbs. Has anyone else experienced this?? Thanks ~Stacy 297/232/150 goal

I too am losing very slowly. Had surgery 10/13 as well! Started at 278 and have lost a total of 51 pounds but only 1 pound in the last 3 weeks!!! Everyone loses at a different pace. My Dr says I am right on target too but when you see other posters losing 70 plus pounds you can't help but be disappointed!! Feel free to email me anytime!

Hi, Yes, I'm also a slow looser... I had surgery on 10.12.04 and have lost -70 lbs., which not bad but I like both of you have seen where people have lost a lot more. I just keep telling myself this will work and in time it will come off. Let me know if you find something that works to help you get to the 5+ lbs. a month rate... I to seem to be stuck for the last 3 weeks nothing.... so close to being under 200 but yet so far... Sherrie 278/208/145ish someday

Sherrie, 70 lbs in 5 months hardly constitutes a slow loser. That is an average of 14 lbs per month which is on the high average range. Denise

Hi Stacy I totally understand your frustration. When that was happening to me at 2 and 3 months post op, I decided NOT to watch my weight - to concentrate on exercise, water, protein and I measured myself 1 x a week. I was losing inches when the weight did not come off. I also checked with the nutritionist to make sure I didn't forget some of the rules of eating and drinking. As we progess, I think we sometimes forget the fundamentals. If it makes you feel any better, I only lost about 20 lbs in the first 2 months when everyone was losing way faster. Then I started to pick up speed. You were way ahead of me then and I was envious of all of you! You will lose more! Just keep on keeping on! Joann RNY 10/20/04 250ish/183/135ish down 65 inches!!!!!!

I just asume everyone loses differently. I lost my first 60 pounds right off the bat almost before getting ot of the hospital or thats how it felt though it was not quite that quick, but 60 pounds was gone and done with before 2 months, now I am down a total of 85 pounds and the last 25 pounds have taken 2 to 2 nd a half months, some times I dont lose anything at all for three or more weeks then I ahve a small spurt of weight loss then it stops again. I have been told that as our body heals from the initial surgery usually at three months out it begins resisting losing the weight. I have my own theories about that, I honestly feel that the body remembers the plateaus of weight gain, I can remember my plateaus somewhat and they seem to coordinate very well with the plateaus I am having in the reverse. SO every time when I was gaining weight that I managed to hold my weight at a certain level for a few months before continuing the weight gain, seems to be where my body resists losing the weight on the way back down. But for whatever reasons, people just lose weight or gain it Iimagine at differing rates. Its easy to get frustrated but my advice is just be happy for the weight already lost and consider any further weight loss to be gravy< oh bad choice of words> well not gravy lets say any additional weight loss from here on out is splenda on the top. If you feel healthy, and are continuing to exercise and lose inchs then I woudl say dont sweat it. I can honestly say the amout of weight I carried did not bother me early as much as the size I had become. if I had been told I could lose inchs and not lose weight at all I would have probably been very happy with that outcome. remember muscle weighs more than fat, so your exercise wil have a dampening effect on the weight loss but a nice effect on the inch decrease.

Hi Stacy... sounds like you are right on track.... be proud of yourself for the accomplishment.. there are a lot of different things that could effect the rate of your loss compared to your friends.. like did she have more to lose than you? her genetic make up... don't be so down and hard on yourself... You are doing an awesome job!

Stacy, Hi! My surgery was Oct 14, 04, weighed 276lbs at that time. I have lost 73lbs since surgery. Make sure you drink lots of water. Don't drink anything with sugar or any type of carbonated drinks. I have also slowed down with my weight lost, but I'm not worried. Your body will go in and out of plateaus. I have gone from a size 26-28 to an 18. Remember when you exercise you gain muscle and muscle adds weight so you're gaining weight but you are losing inches and fat. "Look at your weight loss in a different light. Hang in there!

Thanks for the imput everyone... I am gonna try to hang in there and not let it seriously get to me. I have started tanning to try to make myself feel better, I always do when I tan. I am also steppin it up at the gym. I really truly try not to compre myself with others, I was more worried with the amount of loss per month for the past 4 months, and if it continues this slow, I will truly never get to goal. If I continue to lose only 2.5 a month it will take me 34 more months to lose the remaining 85 lbs!!! Something has to break soon! Thans again Stacy
