Admitted to the Hospital
I had lap band surgery 10/13
Tuesday Morning i went into work and was drinking water and it came back up. then i desided to go home. i tried some yogurt and a 2 spoons of it and that came back up. i called my surgeons office and that had me come in right away. i was admitted into the hospital and they did an upper gi and blood test and gave me iv fluids. the test came back ok
the next day they took some fluid out of my band and after i was able to keep lunch down (broth and juice) i was relesed yesterday.
in general...
i have had problems with some foods when i first start eating. i dont know if i start eating too fast or the bites are too large but i will need to vomit. after that i am usually ok to resume eating.
does this happen to other people very often?
my dr said because of the vomiting i caused swelling around the band area and it was most likely the reason for the problem
please let me know
Hi Pam - I'm sorry to hear you had to be admitted, but I'm glad all worked out well.
I too, have to vomit occasionally. I know when it's coming almost as soon as I take the first bite of food and feel yucky until I barf.
Then I can't eat - I have to wait a few hours before my stomach settles down. I did find FOR ME a hot drink like caffiene free tea helps settle my stomach and makes my pouch feel better.
Again, Glad you are well!
Joann
Sorry you had to go into the hospital. Glad to know you are a little better. I too have problems sometimes eating and keeping it down rather food or fluids. Fortunately, I have not had any severe problems and had to go into the hospital so far. Don't intend to either. Sometimes I think I eat too fast, I know I eat too fast or too much and then I really pay for it by making myself throwing up. Afterwards I'm fine. I did not have the band surgery so I not sure how things are with you. I had the lapscopic surgery. Stay in touch, in my prayers for a speedy recovery.
Hi Pam,
I have heard of sometimes drinking too fast, and if the water is cold--that your stomach/band(whatever)contracts and won't let it in. Then after--it becomes the finicky band. Not always-as you can see being 4 mos out. I don't think there is always a ryme or reason--but I think what happened to you has definetly happened to others.
Stay well@!
