soda poll.....
I love diet coke, but I only had it once in a whle, even before surgery. And I always liked it a bit flat so, I just shake the bottle up real good several times and let the bubbles out - it works even better to shake it up and then let it sit around for a day - goes nice and flat. I only drink diet, caffeine free - it can be counted toward your fluid intake that way.

Hello - my name is Mother Love. I too was a PEPSI-Holic. I have not had one since my surgery but I have had Walmart Flavored Waters to satisfy the carbonation addiction. They are good when they are cold. I don't like diet sodas to much but I have had the Sprite Zero which is good. I too have been told they stretch the pouch so now I really try to limit myself. Because honestly I was going wild on the Walmar****ers for minute. But I have cut back on them too. IT IS REALLY HARD - it's not the soda itself - it the fizz that I like. Plus they help move anything that could get stuck. Like everyone I guess moderation is the key?
HI!
REFERENCE TO SODA! WHEN I STARTED THIS JOURNEY I HAD TO GO TO A SUPPORT GROUP TO LEARN ALL ABOUT THE SURGERY AND WHAT HAPPENS AFTERWARDS. THE DOCTORS I MEET ADVISED NOT TO EVER DRINK ANY CARBONATED DRINKS! THE CARBONATION WILL STRETCH YOUR POUCH AND IF THAT HAPPENS YOU WILL BE RIGHT BACK WHERE YOU STARTED AND YOU CAN GAIN ALL THE WEIGHT YOU HAVE LOST BACK. I AM 4 MONTHS OUT AND I STAY AWAY FROM THEM. ENSURE YOU STAY FOCUS WITH THE PROGRAM OF WHAT YOU CAN AND CANNOT HAVE, I.E., SUGAR, LOTS OF FAT, SODAS, ETC. ITS HARD, BELIEVE ME MY FAVOR DRINK WAS A DUNKAN DONUTS MOCHA BLAST. THE SUGAR CONTENT WILL MAKE YOU SICK. I KNOW I DID BUY ONE MOCHA BLAST RIGHT AFTER MY SURGERY AND JUST ONE SIP MADE ME SICK AND I THREW IT AWAY. JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW! HANG IN THERE!
I too was totally addicted to regular coke before surgery. I was afraid to try soda, but tried it. I found just one diet soda I can tolerate the taste of and if you want to take the soda plunge I highly recommend it for diet converts. It is DIET CHERRY VANILLA DR PEPPER. It is teh closest diet soda can get to regular. Also, Coke is coming out with a diet soda in teh spring that is made with Splenda (still going to make the regular diet coke, so don't freak if you already liked it).
I too only tolerate a couple ounces, but man does it hit the spot!

From what I have been told by my Doctor is that it is alright to drink Soda as long as it is poured over ice, and left to sit at least five to ten minutes before drinking. My wife has an acquaintance she works with that had the surgery i***** she was not told that she couldn't have or handle carbonated drinks. She had only lost 150 pounds and then stopped losing althogether. Take in mind I am only telling you of her account. Everyone will be able to handle things differently then others. I have had soda, and have had no problems with it, however after hearing what she had to say it has made me leary of drinking it. Before surgery I could drink ten to twelve or even more diet sodas per day, and now I am drinking none. I would suggest that if you really want soda ask your Doctor, and be on the safe side let it settle a while before you drink it, My decision is to limet myself, I am trying to stay away from carbonated beverages compleatly, especially since soda's cause me to bloat anyway. Some Doctors say to discontinue, and some say that as long as you pour them over ice and let them set for a while before drinking them. There are a lot of conflicting opinions however it is best to ask what your Dr Recomends, and follow his advice.
