Hey All, I had surgery on oct 28th and was wanting to start doing crunches and stuff to try and tighten my apron of a belly I have hanging. Is it safe at this point? I haven't talked to my doc in a while.... Thanks everyone, Warm hugs, Miranda

Curious as to how you acquired your personal trainer...what kind of research did you do, how did you find him/her, etc. Is it very expensive. Do they make a program specificly for you the WLS patient. Very curious as I would also like a personal trainer. Anything you would like to tell me would be great. Thanks, Audrey

Before surgery, I decided I was going to do everything in my power to be successful. One of those things was to join a gym and get a trainer. I started out by using Google, putting in search terms like "personal trainer" + my city. That got me lots of hits. Then, I added bariatric to the search and found my trainer. He had worked with WLS patients before, and that made me feel more comfortable. Also, it ended up that he was in the process of opening a new studio 2 minutes from my office! It was all too lucky (providential), so I went for it. It is certainly not cheap, but I've cut back other expenses to make it happen. I signed up for 3 1-hr sessions/per week for 1 year. It's going really well so far. I print out my FitDay diaries every week for him to review and give feedback. He knows when to up the intensity and push me and when I've gone far enough. I work very well with the accountability, and I feel healthier and stronger than I have in years. Of course, I'm building lean muscle mass, so my weight loss (by the scale) isn't as dramatic as some people here, but I feel I'm doing what I need to do for me. We generally focus on one or two major muscle groups each day and do ab workouts every day. For example, Friday I did legs. Today, I did back and biceps. Wednesday will probably be chest, triceps, and shoulders. That way, I completely fatigue one muscle group during the workout, but it gets several days to recover before we hit it again. Good luck!

I had surgery 10-6-04 and started working out - crunches, etc. - at 6 weeks out. I am fine -- no problems.
