Looking for a support system
Hey Guys,
I have noticed that several of you are trying to support each other by discussing what you eat everyday. I was wondering if you find that is helping you and if it may be possible for me to join in to try and get over this slump I am in. I had my surgery 10/06/04 and have only lost 43 pounds. I do however see a big change in my clothes and have actually had to box up alot of things that are now too big. This is the only thing that seems to keep me going right now. I am getting really discouraged. Thanks for any suggestions you guys may have.
Robyn
Hi Robyn - you are more than welcome to join our little "What did you eat today?" thread! I always like to see what other people are having - gives me ideas for some new stuff. I get so sick of eating the same foods...that's when I usually grab something I shouldn't. I had my surgery one day before you and I am right about the same..I've only lost 45 pounds. I have not lost a single pound in 2 weeks!!!! I am Sooooo sick of seeing 187 on that scale. I had my 3 month check with my surgeon this week, and then had to see the nutritionist after. They both think my stall is due to not getting enough fluids in. I had the flu from Christmas till New Year's and I ate/drank almost nothing for 4 days. I am back to normal eating, but still not drinking for some reason...laziness, I guess. I am lucky if I get 24 oz a day in. So today I will force myself to get in 64 oz and I am going to stick to protein and green veggies, and 1 fruit per day. I've been doing pretty good, but have probably had too many carbs lately. I also have not worked out in about 3 weeks with all the flu and infections going through my kids and husband and I.
I will start another "what did you eat?" thread as soon as I post this. We haven't done one in a few days.
So, as far as what we think is slow loss....my surgeon says I am right on track and he actually only expects me to lose 5 - 7 pounds per month now! YIKES....that sounds way too slow for me. I lost 12 pounds since I saw him last, one month ago. Chin up, even though it feels slow, we ALL feel like that at one time or another. You are not alone!

Robyn, Oh my gosh, you had your surgery on the same day that I did. I am at a stand still, and I'm so frustrated. I went into surgery weighing 316 lbs. I am as of today 259.5 lbs On 12/09/04 I was 270 lbs. so in a little over 1 month, I've only lost 11 lbs. I was busting out of size 32 clothes. I've lost 56.5 lbs. I've been reading the posts on this site and at a couple of other sites and alot of folks say the heavier a person is the faster they drop the weight. I've read that alot, so it must be true. Right!! I went to my 3 month follow up appt. today. The doctor I saw was not the surgeon that did my procedure. I let him know I was concerned about the slow down in weight loss so soon. He asked about how much water I drink, I told him 60 ozs usually. He said it's not enough of course I asked how much should I be drinking, he answered "I don't know" I asked how many calories I should be taking in, he asked how many I burned a day, I said I don't know, his answer, "I don't know, no one knows" I told him I don't get a feeling of fullness, he said "don't worry about it, if you eat too much you will throw up. Not everyone feels full, some people feel hungry". He told me to get in ,two scoops of protein powder and to eat two meals. No snacking and to drink and drink water. He said I can't drink enough water. I'm concernd that I'm eating too much. Last nite my husband asked me to have just liquids for a few weeks, to try and continue to lose weight. I read a post last night that mentioned a site called fitday.com I visited the site and punched in everything that I ate yesterday. Wow, I ate over 1500 calories. I haven't seen a nutritionist and the surgeon that I saw today was of no help. So I'm going to ask my PCP for a referral to a nutritionist. This surgery was such a drastic action, for me not to be successful. I have never been a normal size. Never. I want to have a few years in a normal size body. I'm 5'3" tall, at one point I was over 320 lbs, I don't know exactly how much over, but I wasn't even fitting into my size 32's, I was wearing stretch knit pants and making my blouses. I visit the California board as well and there are ladies there that do the "What did you eat today" But I haven't participated, usually I get on the computer in the evenings into the wee hours of the night ( I haven't returned to work yet) so I always feel why post it's way after the last post so no one is going to read it, I won't get any replys. How helpful is that! So, if you ladies are going to be doing a what did you eat I'll check into this message board daily to post my consumption. I'm going to try to increase the water, and only have two meals, and the two shakes as the surgeon instructed. Oh, he also said he wants me to do aerobics. I don't go to the gym and I don't have any tapes so, I'll dance around and get hot and sweatie for 20-30 minutes if I can. I hope i don't bring down the house (literally) my poor old house! Well, I'm sorry this is so long. Good Luck to us! I'll be back!
I had surgery Oct.4 weighing in at 317. I'm now 260 so we are going about the same rate. I'm also 5'3". I'm struggling with water too. I got dehydrated and my doctor wants me to drink a gallon of water a day. I still haven't been able to do it yet. My computer is broken so I'm at the library so I can't read all the time but wanted you to know. I understand where you are coming from.

I'm right there with you all. I've lost 44#. I was posting my food intake every day but I got lazy.
Yesterday wasn't a good one I had a backslide and grazed a lot.
Today how ever was much better. only 33 carbs and double that in protein.
The only suggestion I have is to stick to the program and the weight will come off. I was getting worried I was doing something wrong. And then all of a sudden the weight just dropped 8 pounds this last week. I've had a couple WLS friends tell me their weight loss didn't take of till after the 3 month mark also.
