Ok I read about plataus and noone seems to have them at just 2 months out I haven't lost in almost three weeks seems and I was wondering those that I hear about that stop losing after about 50 lbs when did it stop. I would soooo hate to think this is it and i know people get scared but see I am not even 3 months let alone the usual 6-9 when I read most have there first reall platau. Anyone got a profile I can read so I can see if there are any similarities to these other unfortunate folks? Please. Thanks 287/230/150 Shell P.S. I get in the protien I drink the water. I walk 5 out of 7 days. I did flub one day but just one. not three weeks worth and hey if you flame me I will hide.

Shell, I am feeling your pain. I had surgery on 26th October and have been at a plataus for about 3 weeks now, it is so unnerving. I've also been busting my but with exercise. I've often wondered am I going to be that 1 case study that the surgery just doesn't work on! We both have to hang in there though. Just keep me in touch and let me know if things start chaning for you. I've only lost 41 lbs. Ahhhhhhhhhh. Monice [email protected]

I can SO relate to you. I had surgery on 09/17/04, but had severe complications, a 2nd surgery and could have absolutely NOTHING by mouth, so I was on intravenous feeding (TPN****il 10/28/04 (on which day I weighed the same as I did just prior to surgery in Sept). So, 10/28/04 is my "start date" I guess. It has now been 7 weeks and I have only lost 25 lbs. For the past 10 days I have been losing and then regaining this one stubborn pound, so I guess I actually have lost 24 or 25 lbs (LOL). I also have been exercising and eating protein first and getting in all of my liquids. I feel so frustrated. But then I think that 25 lbs in 7 weeks is WAY better than any other attempt I have made at losing weight and I just need to be patient. I have to admit though...It is nice to see that other people are having similar things happening to them -- I think it makes us all feel like we are not "hopeless cases" and that everything will be okay...good things come to those who wait?????? Hopefully soon all of us who are experiencing this "stall" will see the scales start moving again. THAT will be a happy day!

OH THANK GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was I am on my second plateau and again it's after my period. Now last month when my plateau ended I lost 10lbs in a week. Then a few here and there until my period a week ago and then nothing. I am so glad you all responded. I was really hoping it wasn't just me. I am actually not too too worried right now as I have a bridesmaid dress that I had to pre-order a month ago for my sisters wedding on the 30th and it actually fits. It's a 22 and I was in a 26. WOO HOO - that's exciting, but I am torn as I want to lose more, but I want the dress to fit. Ooh well, something will work out. Everyone take care. Don't forget: DRINK your water TAKE your vitamins EAT your protein and we shall all be loosers!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you asked this question... I plateaued for about 3 weeks and recently started moving downward again. I try to tell myself not to worry, but my mindset is that I will lose weight, plateau, and start gaining again, like usual. Hard to believe that is not the case this time! I have lost 35 lbs now and trying hard not to weigh myself daily. I guess it's good not to lose too fast at my age or my face might wind up on my chest! LOL! Good luck to ya!

Hi Shell, I am right there with you. Actually, I am on my second plateau. I believe it is beginning to break, as the scale today showed a loss of a few pounds. I firmly believe that mine are caused by two things, the first being my period. I actually gained about 5 lbs the day before it and now that it is over I am a little below the weight I was at before gaining the 5 lbs. But, I truely believe that my plateaus are mainly caused by not getting enough calories in. The body thinks it is starving, so it holds on to everything. When I get more calories in I tend to lose more. Some days I can only get around 400-500 calories and on top of that they are not all absorbed, so my body doesn't want to let anything go! At least we are not alone. That is the wonderful part of this board, it helps us to know that we are 'normal'! Good luck and congratulations on your loss so far. Also, a while back I posted about the wonderful little diet tracker on "my yahoo", you should check it out... it really seems to help put the weight loss into perspective. You set your goals and weigh in periodically and it tells you how close you are to your goal. It helps me to stay realistic and it reminds me just how far I have come already! I am 48% to my goal with 19 weeks left to go out of 26. It really does help! If you need help finding it just let me know! Happy Holidays, Amber

I have been wondering if plateaus are related to how we acquired our weight. when I think back on it I had weight milestones, 250 pounds, 280 pounds 300 pounds 320 pounds. etc. my first plateau was at 320 pounds and there it has remained for the past three weeks. I lost my first 50 pounds rather easily but then nada. maybe our bodies remember or have some preset scale that they resist going past. I remember that I sort of peaked at each of those weights for a good long while before moving upwards. maybe going backwards will be the same. anyone else remember anything similar?

Yes, now that you mention it. I weighed 232 for almost a year and thats where I had my first plateau after WLS. In 1997 I was 310 lbs and dieted down to 232. I could not get past it. That plateau finely broke and I went down to 186 lbs. Then came the regain( again ) On the way back up I stoped at 232 for a while and then stopped at 270. Ouch! 267/258/217/126

That is interesting Joe - makes me wish I had kept a journal of my weight gain! LoL. But thinking back on it, my first real plateau does coincide with a plateau on the way up. Since the last 100 pounds of my weight gain was PCOS related, I wonder if that will affect anything - if it has no effect, then my next plateau should be at 300lbs. Hmmm... hopefully it will skip right over that and go to the weight I held onto for seven years - 275! Not great, but a much nicer place to plateau! Maybe you shoud hand this idea over to the OH magazine and see if they could do anything with it. It might inspire some people looking into having this surgery to keep tabs on their weight and might be used as another tool to help coordinate the weight loss. Keep in touch and let me know if it continues to correlate for you, Rach
