Has anyone else experienced this? I haven't been able to drink water at all without having cramping in my stomach. I told my doctor and she admits that i'm a first for her, but she told me to go ahead and drink Crystal Light then to get my fluids in. I've even tried different brands of water with the same affect. Any ideas? At my last meeting I found out that one of the ladies, friend in Tx also couldn't drink water. ???? This is one for the textbooks. LOL Monice open - Oct 26

Monice, I have had this same problem. And believe me I drink a ton of water normally (it is the only thing that I do drink) and it has killed me. The pain has started to subside over the last couple of weeks though. I am 7 weeks post op today and I can say that now I only have the pain once in a while but for the first 4 weeks at least it was killing me. My doctor said to make sure that I always sip and don't gulp and that did help me. Also it helped if the water wasn't super cold. Good Luck, Nina

Hello Monice, I am the same way. Before surgery water was the only thing that I would drink, but since surgery I just can't seem to tollerate water. I have found that I can drink diluted grape juice. I believe I use appx. 2 oz of grape juice to appx. 16 oz of water. I know juices are high in calories but being diluted that much you really only end up with about 1 serving amount of calories - if you get in all of your fluids. I don't figure that is too bad as long as you can get your fluids in. You certainly don't want to get dehydrated. Good luck to you! Rachella

I am fine with water as long as i sip...and it is sooo tempting to gulp or take a long drink but that hurts soooo self control is key for me. I been watching the boards for over a yearand alot of people cant handle water. Soem cant handle it cold some hot some need it room temperature...from the posts ive read its an individual thing some have to drink chrystal light or tea Dont fuss if you cant drink water straight you can till have chrystal light and or milk if you tolerate it or anything else liquid. What i wouldnt dooo go a GLUP of cold iced water and a big mac hahahaha but say la vie this is the new me anti gulper and never to have a big mac again (or at least not more than a bite or two later on hahaha) kindest regards deborah gale

Does anything else hurt going down? Last week I had a stricture and it was very painful. I couldn't get anything down without extreme pain. But if it's jus****er like you mentioned, then I would definetly slow down if not already and maybe try some hot decaf tea. Water bothers me too. I get nautious(sp?) I use to drink alot of SF lemonade, but I got sick of that. Now I drink a lot of decaf tea. I can drink that down like it's nothing. I don't gulp though. If I gulp, then it does hurt. It's like a sink drain and waiting for the fluid to drain down is painful. Good Luck. Carolyn

I tried sugar free chewing gum. Just put it in my mouth and chewed for a little while -- then got rid of it. That made me thirsty. ...have you checked with your nutritionist? (where I had my surgery, they have nutritionists available to you, basically, 24/7) It took me a few weeks, and drinking lots of juices, before I finally can now drink water. Still not back to where I was, when I loved water -- but it is much better.

Surgery was 10/26. I have a problem with the water also. It hurts so badly. I pretty much live on Crystal Light. I am tired of throwing up. My doctor only wants me to each green leafy veggies & lean meats..nothing else.

Had the same problem -and I LOVE water, used to drink a gallon a day. Turns out I had a closure and an ulcer, which complicated things a bit. I got really bad cramps, and it felt like everything I swallowed got stuck in my chest. Went in for an EGD, and they (mostly) fixed it. Moral: TELL YOUR DOCTOR!!!! DON'T drink anything really cold. Not yet. Room temp works best for me. sip, sip, sip. I'm a gulper and this gets me every time. My biggest handicap is that I absolutely cannot tolerate sweet things. I'm gagging down the protein drinks and vitamis. For flavor, I found the cucumber lemon Smar****er works for me, but mostly it's just plain, old (UBER FILTERED) water that I drink. Now, if we could only get them to make Cheeto flavored chewables or clam chowder protein drinks, I'd be home free...
