Hi, Katy! I had lap RNY 10/29/04. Pleased to meet you. I am eating normal stuff, really. No vegetables, yet, as they are harder to digest I think, but I have had lettuce on sandwiches, etc. I always eat the protein first (if not almost exclusively), and I still drink an Atkins shake a day, just to add some protein. I haven't gone anywhere near sugar or high-fat yet--well, actually, come to think of it, I had about 2/3 of 1/2 of a Red Robin BBQ chicken breast sandwich the other day, and it has deep-fried onion straws on it. There weren't very many, but I didn't have any problem with it. I have lost 20 pounds in 3 weeks (maybe more--period just started) and couldn't feel better. I'm going back to work tomorrow.

Hi Katy, I'm still eating full liquids. I have 2 more weeks of yummy instant potatoes, oats, cottage cheese, etc to go! I cannot wait to have real meat, veggies and fruit. I've lost 38 pounds to date so it is all worth it! I still battle trying to drink all my protein drink but life is good. It has been worth every minute of it. I am walking alot and starting to see a difference in my clothes finally. I also LOVE to watch Food network now. I had lap RNY and am doing great except for the nerve/muscle pain in my left side from my lower incision. Well, hope everyone is doing GREAT! Jen

Hello, Katy, I had my surgery OPEN on October 20th and I am still on the full liquid and mushy food diet. I had a lot of complications (spleenectomy, bleeding, abcess and now a leak) I still have my JP drain and a G-tube in my stomach. I don't have a lot of trouble eating, just sometimes hard to get enough protein. I try to eat at least one egg a day. My incision doen't hurt, but for the past 2 days my upper left quadrant of the abdomen is hurting. I hope not another abcess. Hope this helps. Good luck..debbie

HI girls - I had open on 10/5. I am eating just about anything I want. Lots of shrimp and string cheese. Dark meat chicken is ok, but I still have a hard time with white meat. I've had oatmeal made with Carb Countdown milk, pasta, even some beef. I have tolerated almost everything - had a bad experience with mayo once, mixed with a little canned chicken, but I have had it since and been ok. My scar still hurts. It was only hurting at "skin" level.....like a bad scratch, but lately I can feel my muscles! I think that is because I have started back at Curves and last week I started using the ab machine. I think it might have been too soon because most of the day today, I have held my hand over my scar as a reflex - it just HURTS! Carrying my two babies around all day doesn't help ......but what am I gonna do? I'll tell you, I have only lost 28 pounds in 7 weeks and I am at the same exact weight I was 2 weeks ago today!!! I just can't figure out a good meal plan. My calories are way too low, but my fat and carbs are way too high. (too much cheese, I think) I have been yo-yo'ing with the same 5 pounds for about 4 weeks and I am REALLY getting tired of it. I am trying some new foods this week. I bought stuff to make salad (not given the ok to move to fruits & veggies yet by nutritionist but I am taking control) and I bought low carb whole wheat tortilla's to spread refried beans on. I am going to try to mix things up this week and get off the same old things I seem to eat every day. We'll see if that helps.

Hi all October switchers! I was done OPEN on 10-5-2004, and am feeling so good. Down 35#. I have trouble with eggs/chicken/bread, otherwise can eat most anything. LIke all of you, it is hard sometimes to get the protein in. I probably drink one good protein drink a day. Fruit and veg are ok. I have no problem with chips and dip! (could be a problem...he heheh) I was able to eat a whole Long John Silver's fish plank a few weeks ago, but then last week, ate a small fish stick, and I have to say, though, that is not as bad as I thought, due to that little tiny tummy. I love watermelon, and other canned fruits, especially mandarin oranges. I can drink carbonated beverages without any problem. I really do ok, unless I eat too fast. I hope everyone feels as blessed as I do to have a successful surgery!

I am eating just about everything now. I still have a hard time with some veggies, and grapes of all things. But otherwise I am pretty much back to normal. I haven't given bread a whirl yet...

Hello All, I am almost 5 weeks out and I am now on soft foods so anything soft.... egg salad, tuna salad, cheese, lunchmeats, but have found that even light mayo makes me dump... so I have to eat it with mustard or dry... which really isnt all that good... I have found that shrimp and crab meat goes down wonderfully for me and it gives me the protein I need... I seem to be able to eat more of the seafood than anything else... I supplement with Advant Edge protein and carb control bars.... 21 to 25 grams of protein in one bar... which can take me about an hour or two to eat... Old eating habits die hard... I have had a couple of problems with eating too fast... I burp and then it all comes up... I have been trying to avoid this from happening... just have to continue to eat slow... I am down about 35lbs... I dont have a scale at home as of yet.. but working on getting one... Good luck to everyone on your journey and look forward to keeping up to date with all my fellow Oct buddies... So until Next time... Take care Leslie
