Frustrated!!!!
I had my surgery on 10/22 and I've only lost 17lbs. I'm frustrated also. Not only that I can't eat very much and I can't take the vitamins. my md just put me on one a days since I can't take the taste of the others. He said i'm not getting enough protein in since I can't drink the shakes. It does get frustrating and sometimes I wonder did I do the right thing. I think it's like someone else said, if you don't eat enough your body holds on to it. Well I have no other choice but to keep trying. Let's just pray for each other.
I had my surgery on Oct 22. I lost 10 lbs pre-op on their protein diet. I've only lost 15 lbs since the surgery. It is extremely frustrating. I think I may need to try harder to up my protein, exercise and get in more water. I had no idea how hard each of those things would be after surgery.
Good luck to us all.

Hi again everyone!
I guess we are all in the same boat. It is so very frustrating to seem to be "stuck" losing only a few pounds when we hear of others losing so much more. But hey - that's okay because we will get there too!!! At least I know that I am not alone and that I am not doing anything wrong.
I took today off from riding my exercise bike because my migraine is so bad that I just couldn't do it. I figure if I exercise at least 4-5 times a week I will be doing good. I did lose 1.5 lbs from yesterday but we will see what tomorrow brings.
Spirits up everyone - we too will make it to our goal weight! Just think - this time next year how much thinner and happier we will be. I am really trying to be positive and upbeat. I really hate feeling depressed. I am glad I had the surgery - It WILL work for me - I will make it work for me.
Take care all and feel free to email me if you feel like venting too! You can email me at: [email protected]

Well, its certainly nice to know that we're not alone with this struggle! I am 6 weeks out and have lost only 28. I lost 18 the frist 2 weeks, so that is only 10 pounds in the last 4 weeks! I give up obssessing about it because I know there is nothing more I can do. I have dissected my diet and excercise and I am doing exactly what I am supposed to do. I count calories, fat, protein, carbs and fluid intake AND work out at Curves 4 - 5 times a week. What more can I do??
I heard my husband on the phone with my MIL the other day and he said "She lost alot in the beginning, but now its stopped" And who knows what people really think, but I FEEL like they are thinking "she can't even lose weight after having surgery?" or they might think I am "cheating". I've asked him to just tell people my total loss if the ask, and not mention any plateaus or problems.
I need a big dose of patience....I KNOW it will come off...even if it is a bit slow in my mind. Heck - it used to take me 3 months to lose 10 pounds, if I was lucky!
I'm where you are. Same surgery date. I hadn't lost anything for a few weeks either. So my weight loss varies between 30-35lb. I asked my doctor and he said I was doing just fine. He likes a 2 lb weight loss a week and with what I had loss after surgery he says I'm doing great. Its better to lose gradually. So we are fine, just impatient. I'm finding people who seem to lose a large amount at first are larger than the majority. You lose more weight first if you are 400lbs compared to 300lbs. By the way yesterday I finally lost 3 lbs so its finally starting again!
I had my surgery 10/12/04. Starting weight 249. At 10 day check up had lost 19 pounds to weigh 230. The following week I gained 8 pounds! How is this possible? It was the protien shakes and bars. I am finally down to that 230 again and I am comming up to my 6th week post op. My Dr says I am not eating enough. Youa re certainly right....its frustrating!

Great Topic! I've been feeling the same way.
Surgery was 10/12/04, weight 360
2 week Dr. appt -23.4 pounds.
3.5 week Dr. appt -.9 pounds more
4.5 weigh-in - 3.4 pounds lost
... for a total of 26.8.
Add 10 pre-surgery pounds lost to that.
It feels like I've lost more since those dates (week ago), so need to get to a scale and check that out.
I started at 370/360, so it seems like it would've been more weight lost by these dates. The nurse said that it depends on the individual -
And, am not able to be very active though because of knee problems (yet).
Have been slipping into the frame of thought that I'll be disappointed in my weight loss and this 'attempt' will fail also. This partially comes from the repeated past weight loss failures and weight regains, but it just seemed that I'm not losing as much as others also.
I have a problem getting enough protein and water in. The thought of protein drinks make me gag - though I liked them pre-surgery. Getting more protein and water and exercise would no doubt up the weight loss I spose.
I just keep telling myself that with the little I'm eating, the weight loss will HAVE to occur. Thanks for bringing this up - at least we know others are experiencing the same doubts and fears.
