Hi everyone. I just need to vent. I am so frustrated!! I am 4 weeks post-op today and I have only lost about 24 lbs. I know that is better than what I would have lost without the surgery but UGH! A few days ago I had gained 4 lbs (I had lost 28 lbs at that point) and I just can't seem to start losing again. I have been walking, but not as much as I should have. I did buy an exercise bike yesterday and today I rode it for 20 minutes 2 different times and rode a total of 4.5 miles and I am hoping that will start the weight coming off again. I am not eating excessively so I don't know what the problem is. I did have to start on soft foods early as I could not tollerate the protein shakes, but I was still losing up until about 3 days ago. I know that everyone loses weight at a different rate and I know that it takes time and I will eventually stary losing again (at least I certainly hope I do!!), but it is still very difficult. Again, I just needed to vent. Thanks for listening. Rachella

I was feeling the same way... I am 5 weeks post-op as of yesterday and I am down 26.5 lbs... the doctor says I am right on track. I know of others who have lost more, but they also weighed more than I did... Look at it this way... You are averaging 6 lbs per week, so in 24 weeks you will have lost 144 lbs... I know the weight loss will slow even more but if you lose it slowly, your skin has a better chance of bouncing back... if you exercise! Good Luck, I was stressing too, but I am not anymore... I was in a 26, but now I am back into my 22's... I am loving it and feeling more sexy already! Jen

Hi Rachella, We had surgery on the same day! I have lost a little more than you, right now I have lost about 33lbs. Whats funny is that when I came home from the hospital I had already lost over 15lbs. I know we aren't supposed to weigh ourselves all the time, but as a bit of an experiment I weighed myself daily for a bit. I noticed that after being home from the hospital for about a week I hadn't lost any more, then the next day the scale showed that I weighed 5lbs. less. It is rather strange how this works. I also noticed that you stated "I am not eating excessively so I don't know what the problem is. I did have to start on soft foods early as I could not tollerate the protein shakes, but I was still losing up until about 3 days ago." Well, from what I understand, if we don't get enough calories our weight loss will slow. Our bodies are used to a lot of calories then suddenly we have surgery and for a day or two we have like zero calories. Then we start drinking and eating and our calories go up very slowly... our bodies think we are starving. So, our bodies tend to hold onto everything until they gets past the shock and they realize they can use up the excess fat. So, perhaps you should try to get in some more calories, I know it is hard. Also, don't forget to eat your protein first! Protein will help with the weight loss. Yesterday I posted about a great tasting product that has 12g/cup, check it out! But, the bottom line is this... You have lost 24 pounds in 1 month! That is amazing. Remember how hard it was before surgery to lose 5lbs? Keep a positive attitude, things will pick up. Also, try not to compare yourself to others(much easier said than done), but if you do, make sure their pre-surgery stats are close to yours. The more a person weighs, the faster the weight will come off. Oh, one other thing. Have you been keeping track of your measurements? Many times the scale won't move, but inches will come off. This is such a hard time for us. It is like we are on an emotional roller coaster and on top of that we have so many things to worry about, wondering if we are normal, if this pain or that gurgle is normal, etc. etc. That is the wonderful thing about this website! All things happen in time, just try to be patient. I know, its hard after being patient for so long... but it really will all come together. Have a great day! Amber

Tomorrow is my 6 year WLS anniversary. Pre surgery I was 275. The lowest I reached was 165. I am now at 185 and have been at that weight for pretty much 5 years. Talk about frustrating! Although I can't eat big meals..I can eat many times a day. I do a lot of snacking. I can't eat more than 2 cookies without getting sick, so that's a good thing. But I can eat 2 cookies, then have 2 more a few hours later. I don't know many people who have lost more than 100 lbs.

Hi again everyone. Thanks to all of you who took the time to post such encouraging words!! And thanks for listening to my rantings. Everything everyone said is true, and I know that, but I just needed to vent. Thanks again for listening and the encouraging words. I know the weight will come off in it's own sweet time. Take care. Great topic! I've been feeling the same way. My date was 10/12/04, and I think I'm down maybe 25-30 lbs.??? I talked with the physical therapist yesterday, who also had WLS last year, and she said that from what she sees, the first month is typically slow, and then things pick up between month 1 and month 3. So let's all hang in there and do our thing!! Janelle

I got you all beat. I am now 7 weeks out and down 25 lbs. I don't know what else I can do. I was only averaging 4 lbs per week, now down around 3. I just want to cry. I eat very little, and keep hoping that things will turn around for me. -Dyna

Thank you Thank you Thank you. I came on the site tonight to vent also about my pathetic weight loss. I am 4 weeks out today and have lost about 20 lbs (depending on when you start counting). First week I lost 13 lbs, 5.5 lbs, 2nd week, 1 (ONE!!!!!) lb. 3rd week.. My MD said I was on target since only need to lose 100 lbs. and that maybe I drinking too much juice (12 oz a day). Also, I had no BM for 3 days. But now AGAIN ONLY ONE POOPY LITTLE POUND this weekagain! I am getting tired of everyone asking me "how much weight did you lose"? I was thinking.. what am I doing wrong? Did I make a mistake having this surgery? Am I eating wrong things? Do I need to eat more? Less? Differently? My MD put me on regular food and I wonder if my body is holding on. It sure helps to know I will not be in the Gunness book of records as being the first WLS patient who could not loss weight!! I decided I will give it one more week before I totally freak! I meet with the nutritionist AGAIN tomorrow, working out 3 x a week for 30 minutes, am making a concerted effort with getting my fluids in. Don't know what else in in my control. Questions- Did anyone else have less BMs when you went on regular food? Does anyone else have trouble eating 2 oz protein (eg. canned tuna, chicken wing, etc) at one time? Joann

don't feel frustrated. I have trouble eating, drinking, and losing. I just keep praying that I may be able to eat one of these days. I have 1 bm a week. I actually went to the store to get me something to help clean me out. I got philips chews, they don't tast that bad, and they are chocolate crem. the funny thing is I ate it then threw it up about 5 minutes later. I can eat tuna, salmon, but reg. food I can not eat with it coming out. I hope you start feeling better.... believe me when I say , when we think we have it rough, someone else has it rougher. Just be very thankful you can eat without getting sick. Detra
