Hi everyone, I had an open RNY on Oct.18th. I had some complications after surgery(fluid overload, drop in blood pressure) and ended up in ICU for 3 days. But it resolved and was home in 5 days. I had my last Dr. appointment last Friday (11/12). I lost 32 lbs. in 25 days I also did develop a seroma, that drained for about 2 days. Luckily, my Dr. had told me this could happen so I didn't freak too much I am starting to eat regular food but am still learning to recognize the different feelings and sounds my body is making. I still have a hard time recognizing when I am full. Usually, I just start feeling sick(nauseous) so I stop eating. The hardest thing for me is to leave food on my plate, I still feel I need to eat everything. I do use a baby spoon and this has worked really well for me. I do still have some pain and still need my Vicodin, tho today I only needed to take it one time. I can't see that I have lost weight, but have such a wonderful supportive family, who constantly say they can see it. I am still off work and still get very tired but it is getting better. Anyone else have any of these problems?

Hello Nancy, I had my surgery on 10.12.04 and when I get my meal together (LOL) I just measure out 4oz.'s I even eat it right out of the measuring cup sometimes and only eat until I just start feeling full... it can be tricky figuring out when to stop but I just take my time, and if I wait just a few min. I can usually tell its time to stop. I hope this helps! Have a great week!! Sherrie

Hi Nancy, I am new to the site also and my surgery was also on October 18, 2004 I had the RNY done laporscopically, which made a big difference for me, My surgery was at 9am and I was home the next evening. I totally can understand some of the issues you mentioned, like still not sure when you are full until you feel a little nauseated, and I am having trouble with solids this week, I can only tolerate tuna and toast, and sometimes some moist chicken, other than that I have pudding, jello, soup.....not sure if this is the norm or not I have lost 30 pounds but do not feel like it, but just as you my wonderful family and friends continue to tell me daily that they can see the lose I weighed in at 301 day of surgery and I would like to get down to 150 if possible so I have a very long way to go! I would love to chat with you more sometime...good luck and god bless you!

Like you, I have a long way to go. I weighed in @382 and was 350 at my last visit. If I get down to under 200, I will be very happy. Right now I just want to get comfortable with these new sensations and getting to know my body again. Have you had any cravings or eaten something you knew wasn't good for you? So far I haven't and hope I don't get any heavy cravings for any of the junk I used to eat. I can actually walk past the candy dish and not take a piece. It is so liberating. Talk to you soon. Nancy

Hi Nancy and all the other 10-18's, LOL I was done lap with a small complication that made my surgery last 5+ hours, and I have 8 tiny incisions instead of the normal 5 or 6. My biggest problem is bad bad gas pains from anything I put in my mouth, even water!! I am not getting enough of anything in and I know it, but it hurts so bad. I am beginning to have this hate relationship with food and I need to get it under control or I will be in big trouble I fear. I have lost nearly 40 lbs and my friends and family are very supportive and tell me that I am melting!!! email me any time... hugs Wendy
