Hello everyone. I was just curious about 2 things.... First, What medications/vitamins did your surgeon put you on post op? Mine only has me on a chewable pepcid and a multi-vitamin. Second, How much and what can you eat? Thanks a lot. I am just curious. -Amber

Hi Amber I am still on Prevacid, Celebrex, Lotensin (high bp) and Wellbutrin. Vitamins: 4 Flintstone chewables/day, 6 Ultra tums/day, I sometimes substitute a powder Calcium w D, 65 mg iron, B12 1200/week, minimum 60 g protein/day, and lots of water. I find that I cannot eat more than 1/2 cup of puree/liquid, one egg, and some things less than 1/2 cup. I was on liquid for 3 weeks, now I am on puree for 3 weeks. I have only been eating breakfast and dinner as I am not hungry at lunchtime, but usually have a protein drink instead. I know they are not meal replacements, but since I don't eat I figure it the lesser of 2 evils. Hope this helps Sheryl

Hi Sheryl, Thanks for responding! I have a question for you. I noticed that you are taking wellbutrin. How do you take it? My surgeon said NO PILLS! So, I went to my pcp yesterday and he said that Wellbutrin is NOT to be crushed, therefore I can not take it anymore. He prescribed something else to try, but I was really happy with Wellbutrin. So, let me know your game plan with it, maybe it could help me! Oh, yeah... The medications I listed in my first post are just what my surgeon prescribed post-op, I also take Wellbutrin(up until yesterday, I was crushing them!), Liquid loritab for my back and knee pain(used to be vicoden tabs.), flovent and albuterol for my asthma, and various other supplements(like vit. C and biotin.) Thanks again Sheryl, Amber

Amber I am still taking the Wellbutrin pill. I break it in half. This is what was done at the hospital and I was told to do the same at home. Sheryl

Amber -- I take Wellbutrin also; and like someone else said, I used to be Wellbutrin XL which is extended release and can't be crushed. However, I switched over to regular Wellbutrin and I cut that into 2 pieces. Here's my whole list: Optisource Vitamins - chewable, 4 per day Liquid Pepcid - as needed (I've taken it twice, it is so nasty!) Wellbutrin - 1/2 pill twice a day (cut in half) Zoloft - 1 pill twice a day (cut in fourths) I am supposed to eat 1/4 c per meal/snack, 5 times per day but it's more like 1/2 c I am very sorry to say.. and I still get hungry two hours later.

Well... Monday I was progressed from clear liquids to pureed foods, which I will be on for 4 weeks. I have been having a lot of cottage cheese, soups, chicken, turkey, and pureed fruits. My surgeons diet has a lot of variety, just as long as it is pureed smooth!

Hi Amber... I am 4 weeks post-op. I was on liquids for 3 weeks and will be on pureed for 5 weeks... While on liquids, I took: 4 multi-vitamin w/ iron (2 in the am, 2 in the pm) 6 tums (2 in the am, 2 in the noon, 2 in the pm) 1 prevacid (for only 1 week post-op, crushed) 1 actos (for Diabetes, for only 1 week post-op) While on pureed: 2 multi-vitamins w/ iron (1 in am, 1 in pm) 1 calcium citrate per day (seperate from the multi-vitamin) My surgeon/Dietitian says I should be getting the following: 1000-1200 calories 70-100 g protein 64-96 oz water 100-120 carbs (this is high, and I have never met it) 20-25 fats no more than 15 sugar grams per sitting I have found that I can only tolerate no more than about 8 grams of sugar per sitting, if even that. Hi Jennifer, Thanks for the great response. I have to admit, I was rather shocked when I read that your dietitian suggested 1000-1200 calories at 4 weeks post op. I am close to 3 weeks post op and I can only get in 300-600 calories/day. I don't know how you do it. Are you able to meet that amount easily? I suppose I have almost 2 weeks left to get where you are. Thanks again, Amber

Hi Amber... I was also shocked when I read that I was supposed to have that much calories. It is almost physically impossible. I have never reached 1000. Two times I have gotten to 800 and on both of those days, the next morning I was down 2 pounds. I thought I would have gained weight, but it was the opposite effect. I usually get between 500-600 calories in a day. As for carbs, I usually get between 25-50 carbs in a day. Sometimes even less than that (yesterday was 13 carbs). What do you get in a day? Jennifer
