Out after 6 days in the Hospital, now worried how the HECK do I keep 64oz down? Someone...
I had surgery on Oct 25. My dr said to aim for 40 oz. to begin with and to proceed as quickly as possible to 64-72. I am averaging 40 to 50oz. My trouble is I perfer water, however, since surgery I get a lump in my thoat if I try and drink it plain. So, I try and drink crystal lite watered down because it is to sweet tasting.
I know this sounds gross, but I take a jar of stage 1 baby food chicken and mix it with 4 oz. of canned chicken gravy and a little water. I sipp this when I get hungry. It adds more fluid to body abd I get 8- 10 grams of protein and low in fat. I would not be able to get the baby food down if I did not cover it in gravy. LOL
Hope this helps
This is something that will be very difficult. You can work up to the 64 oz. I discovered that I can do more than just sip and that really helps alot. I drink about 70-80 oz. a day. Pre-op, I drank between 200-300 oz. a day. I miss water so much! I love it.
Something else that might help is to have crushed ice on hand. They have a slushee/icee maker at Walmart for under $20.00. and you can just crush the ice and forget about the flavoring. Add some water to the ice and just eat that. I went and bought a fridge that has built in crush ice maker and I love it...
Good luck,
