Nagging Cough after Surgery

Hi everyone, Congrats on surgery! Was just wondering if there was anyone else out there having problems with a nagging cough after surgery? I was at the end of a cold when I went into surgery, but the doc seems to think it was from the tube that they put down my throat! It is driving me crazy though!!! I can't sleep for the consisting coughing - clear flemm sp?. Thanks, Miranda

Trust me, you are not the only one! My cough has been horrible! And with these staples it is killing me!I was just strating a cold when I went in for surgery, and I guess it decided to set in! But I completely sympathize with the lack of sleep and all, because once I get a cough it is near impossible to get rid of! But I did take some robitussin and it helped a little! Jolene

Wow I had the same problem and was told as well they it may have been from the tube. Not having it quite as bad now but I was suffering.

I didn't have a cough, but had a terribly scratchy voice, and then some nasty post nasal drip. That was a bummer. But all better now. Try gargling warm sal****er to break up the phlegm. Robin

I had surgery on Oct 25th my doctor sent me home from the hospital with a Plastic breathing device (you blow in it and make a tube go up. I was told to use it every hour I was awake to prevent phenmonia setting into my lungs. About the 4th day at home my coughing stopped. Did you get a plastic breathing device while in the hospital? It will help clear your lungs. Charlene

I was given one in the hospital in the very beginning(immediately after surgery) and told to do it 10 times per hour. I was also to bring it home and use it. It helped me and my lungs feel stronger for it!
