sometimes its ok to eat, sometimes not????protein shakes too???
I have been having trouble with eating a certain food and it was ok and then the next day trying it and it would make me sick.Does anyone else have this???I also have a question about the protein shakes.....im only taking 2 multivitamins with iron, hair and nail pill,b12 under the tongue,2 tums ex with calcium.IM wondering if i am getting enough protein since i am limited to what i can eat since im a little over 2 weeks post op.please help........
I was having some of the same things happen. I would eat something one day and the next it would make me nausiated, I'm not sure why. I am only 13 days post but I have heard that protein shakes make hydration more difficult and could cause some dehydration. My surgeon told me to wait at least 60 days to start having protein drinks because thats when my hair will start to thin out and I will need the extra protein to help with the hair loss.
If something doesn't set right, wait a while before you try it again. I am 2 weeks out and my dr says 6 oz of soft food a day, protein first, meanng : eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt etc. NO extra protein till 8 weeks out. Eventually he wants 50-60-gr a day, and 64 oz of fluid. after two weeks I can add fish, then two more weeks, chicken/turkey, finally it will beef and pork. Relax a little about the protein for right now, your still healing, I am taking 2 flinstones with iron a day and 2 tums . I have to start b-12 within 2 months. Your doing great it sounds like.

You need the protein shakes to heal. Protein is the building block that you body uses to heal. I am two week 1 day post-op. I have been on a protein shake since I got home. My husband found Isopure on the internet. It is zero carb and no sugar. You might ask your MD about that. I have not had any trouble with any foods YET. I know it will come. I am also using the new spray vitamins. Good luck to you.

Every program is different, at times, drastically different.
I started on protein shakes 30 days before my surgery and continue to get at least 60 g/day. My incisions are healed and two are not even noticeable. I credit my protein intake for that and the amount of energy I have.
I also read that hair loss at 3 - 4 months is due to the lack of nutrition and vitamins and it takes about that long for it to affect our body. I am hoping that by taking in the protein since before surgery plus using a protein based shampoo and conditioner will help lessen the hair loss.
I take 4 Flintstones/day, 4 Tums Ultra/day and sometimes substitute a higher potency Calcium w/ D, iron every day, sublingual B12 1000 mg 1/wk, and a minimum of 64 oz of water, all of which are required by my surgeon.
I was on full liquids for 3 weeks, pureed for 3 weeks, then soft food for 3 weeks. I have a printed food plan that I use religiously. There are some foods I cannot tolerate at all and others that I have been surviving off of.
Each of us is different and I hope your plan brings you tremendous success.

I started protein shakes before surgery. My dr recommends using shakes asap because the body needs protein to heal. He recommends as soon as you can to get up to 40 grams a day (within 1st week or 2) and to fowllow as quickly up to 72 grams a day that you can. I am 9 days post-op and I am averaging 60-65 grams each day. I am already back to work and have had no problems since surgery. I was able to get up and walk as soon as they got me to my hospital room. I truly believe it's the protein that's makes a difference.
If you do not want to start protein shakes try Hoods Countdown. I drink it twice a day. Here are 3 suggestions on how to make it taste good.
8oz Hc milk
8oz HC milk mix with Carnation Breakfest Lo carb or
8oz Hc milk with 1 scoop Anywhey unflavor protein
I put one of the three above in a blender, I then add s/f flavoring such as Butterum or Internation Coffee decalf/sugar free any flavor or both and then I add 1 cup crushed ice. Blend, it turns out like something you would buy from Starbuck's.
