almost 2 weeks post op..and its hard!!
I had my surgery on oct 18 and i am almost 2 weeks into the post op.I am doing well as far as the pain is concerned.I am not really that hungry but all the fast food comercials are drivin me nuts (lol). If anyone has any food ideas...im ready to listen. The ol soup, jello, crackers and cheese is getting boring.Anyone have any ideas on gooey or liquid foods????
Hi Catherine!
I thought I would go nuts too! I was so sick of all those foods...and then I was given the ok for the next phase earlier this week. I'm in heaven! Once you can have refried beans, cheese, soft meats, etc. -- the pintos and cheese from Taco Bell are divine! I'm also able to eat Wendy's chili. I was thrilled to have the different tastes. The pintos & cheese lasts for at least 2 meals and so does the chili. I'm a cheap date now! Don't get discouraged. I haven't looked at the recipe board yet but understand there are quite a few recipes. I'll be going there next. But a few of my own creations are a rootbeer float (vanilla shake mix, mil**** flat diet rootbeer or flavoring mixed together in blender til smooth), Orange Dream (same as float but w/diet orange pop or flavoring), Pumpkin Shake (vanilla shake mix, mil**** pumpkin pie spices). It's something different anyway.
Take care!
Oh man do I feel your pain! At 4 weeks post op I still have a rough time. Sometimes I feel like all I eat are refried beans, eggs, and tuna. Here are some of my bright ideas:
Old El Paso Fat Free refried beans
Lowfat shredded cheese
Lowfat sour cream
Cheesy Bean soup:
1 can bean w/bacon soup (condensed)
1 can cheese soup (condensed)
2 cans skim (more protein than the water!!)
Puree in bursts with the blender, then strain. You get nice, smooth soup with the maximum amt of protein you can squeeze out!
Egg Drop Soup
(You can make at home by boiling chicken broth then cracking in an egg and stirring)
Sugar Free pudding
Once you can progress to fish, I highly recommend Tilapia. It has almost no fishy flavor, it's less expensive than fishes like salmon, mahi, or tuna, and it broils/bakes nice and soft and moist. I like to cook mine with a little olive oil, garlic, and lemon pepper.
Hang in there!
I was advanced to soft foods already which oddly enough includes some types of crackers. I like the crunch and never has a pretzel tasted so good. Use the flavored cream cheeses as a base on a Wasa bread and then add the meats/fish (I can't do red meat yet) you can tolerate, the ones high in protein, paired with sliced hard boiled egg, etc. It's kind of like making Danish open-faced sandwiches. Remember, the eye eats first. Don't forget to chew, chew, chew!!
