Please I Really Need Help Here!
I am 2 weeks post-op and am not getting in my protein. I can not seem to find one that I can stomach. The ones I have tried make me throw up . I even tried the ProStat 64 where I only have to drink 4 oz a day but I can not even handle that. Any one have any suggestions on how I can get my protein in???? I am so exhausted and have no energy and my doctor says it is due to lack of protein. Please any help is appreciated. I feel like I am failing already due to not being able to handle the protein drinks!
Angel,
At www.bariatriceating.com, on their protein powders page, towards the bottom right is something you may want to try. I can't remember the exact name, but it is tasteless whey... you can add it to anything! Check it out. I hope it helps!

Hi Angel,
I'm almost 2 weeks post-op, too. I don't like the sweet taste of most of the protein drinks, but I did buy Atkins Advantage to have when I'm out and about. There are several different flavors, but I like Cafe au lait, Strawberry, and Creamy Vanilla. They are 11 oz., with 20 gr of protein, so 3 of those a day would do it. But they are expensive.
So I went to a health food store and bought some protein powder and some s/f chocolate syrup. I made a shake with 8oz of lactaid milk, one scoop of protein powder and 1 tbs. of the syrup. That was pretty good. Then I did another one of just the lactaid milk, protein powder and a dash of coffee (decaf, if you have it). That was pretty good, too.
I tried the nectar protein powders, but they were just too sweet for me. So I mixed those with Crystal Light to cut the taste.
For breakfast, I've been mixing protein powder into my 1 oz of yogurt, and my 1 oz of unsweetened applesauce. That gets me 20 gr of protein right off the bat.
I'm still trying to come up with other tricks to get the protein in, but so far I'm almost at goal daily.
Good luck.

Hey. I'm 5 days pot-op and don't have any encouraging advice to lend - but, I do know something that may help. If you go to a health food store they sell a huge can of soy granules. They are itty bitty little pellets and full of protein. If you mix them in your pudding or yogurt or anything - they dissolve and have no taste. They are also fairly inexpensive. Maybe that would help and you can slide past the protein shakes altogether for now.
Hi
I felt the same way. All last week it was all I could do to walk to a chair. I agree. The protein drinks are disgusting. I've been using Unjury mixed in with food. It's so much easier to digest. I've used it in chicken soup, and added blendered chicken. These powders are tricky. You add them to WARM not hot things. Otherwise they turn gooey. I've also started to eat cottage cheese with protein powder, because it has a lot of protein. I make sure it's really mashed up. I never thought I'd enjoy chewing cottage cheese. The other thing I started eating was egg custard. After about 2 oz. of anything I'm stuffed. I couldn't get the protein in with food so I sneak in the powder. I got a whole sample pack of protein powders. I can get them down and keep them down but I feel it for hours. If you're able to get in 20g you'll start to feel a lot different. Have you tried Ensure,Boost, SlimFast?
Keep in touch.
Joanne
Angel,
I like the Unjury as well. (Unjury.com) Haven't really tried anything else. I can taste it in some things, but it blends really well into a sugar free chocolate puding. One scoop is 20 gms of protein. It was ok in soup, but I didn't like it in my jello. You can also add just a half scoop for 10 gms. As for other sources, my surgeon recommended shrimp, if you like seafood. I cook up 3-4 frozen cooked shrimp (sizes vary) in just a touch of olive oil and some minced garlic. Yum. I like tuna fish, egg salad, and cottage cheese too. Not overly fond of any of these things before surgery, but love them now. Good luck with the protein.
