Someone sugested babyfood to me as an option for meals post-op. I looked at some of the labels in the store the other day and was surprised to see a very low amount of protein. Am I expecting too much? How do they taste? I haven't bought any, I thought I would ask here first. TIA Hugs Wendy

Good Morning Wendy! I bought a couple jars of baby food yesterday to have on hand after surgery. Steps 1 and 2 were on the list of foods they gave me at my pre-op nutrition class. And only the vegies and fruits, no hawiian delight. As for taste my niece seems to like them! Good Luck! Jen.

I bought some before surgery. Of course the meats are higher in protien but I wouldn't eat them straight. Someone suggested mixing them in with broth. Some of the meals have protein in them. I tried one. There isn't much flavor. I added salt and it was a little better. I wouldn't by them. Now the fruits, I love the pears. Even a small jar makes 3-4 servings. I mix them with cream of wheat and its good when you are still on runny foods. Two weeks out and my doctor said if I normally wouldn't buy it, don't. It would be a waste. I now mash banana's into cream of wheat. It is wonderful and more flavorful. Natural foods have more flavor and are healthier.

I did, but now, they are just sitting in the fridge. I really dont like the taste of them, although they are cheap 3-4 meals for ya. I guess its up to you and your own tastes. Try one or 2 to start with, dont buy alot like I did.

try making some real veggies and fruits purreed by cooking them (try squash or an apple/pear mix) and then mixing in the blender. I froze them in small tassy size muffin tins and then they were in small serving sizes and I knew the sugar/salt wasn't over done. Good luck Beth VBG Open 10-4-04

NO! I tried all of that before surgery, it would have been much easier, but they were so nasty. I food process things together and put them in smaller containers. They taste better to me anyway.

I have tried the baby food, particurlary the turkey with gravy and the chicken with gravy. It tastes pretty decent if you add a little salt and garlic powder and onion powder!!!!!!!! Lots of protein in the little 2 1/2 oz jars! Billie

I bought some fruit ones. But, I use them to flavor my protein drinks. I was finding it impossible to get in the required protein without the protein drinks. Now, I make one super protein shake a day that has all the protein I need, and so all I need to worry about is the water and the rest of my food is dictated by hunger and cravings. The chocolate shakes are good, but even I get bored with them. I add the fruit baby food to the vanilla drink as a change of pace. Good luck!
