Re: Can you gain weight back after having the surgery?
Yes! You can gain weight back! All you have to do is eat the things that you can slip by your band-- like milk shakes, high calorie soups, etc. The lap band in simply a tool to weight loss. You are STILL required to follow the rules. It's just easier when you aren't always hungry. If you have emotional issues that lend to overeating, you will still need to deal with them.

Yes, you can!
My surgeon's nurse told us of a man who had the lap RNY. He weighed 550 pounds when he went into surgery. He lost ALOT of weight. One day, he found out he could tolerate sugar. He now weighs 480 pounds and eats about 4 to 5 candy bars a day! And he refuses to stop.
So, please be careful about your food choices. Even though you might be able to tolerate alot things doesn't mean you should eat them. Be healthy!

You definitely can gain weight again. The surgery is only a tool. You still have to work at losing and keeping that weight off. You have to fight all those old urges to binge eat and stuff yourself. BUT all is not lost. You hopefully will find that you have lots more control after experiencing the "new you" after surgery. The small pouch helps a lot too. Always try to eat small portions. Don't stuff yourself. Don't drink and eat at the same time. Always eat that protein first. Veggies next = even eating them as a snack if you can't get them in at meal time. and Fruits last. Keep pasta and rice out of the picture as they swell in the pouch and can cause problems as well as stretch that puoch. There are thousands of people out there that have kept the weight off and myself, while I'm still struggeling with a some pounds yet (see my profile story and pics), I wouldn't trade who I am now to go back to who I was at 437 pounds 3 years ago for nothing. I slip and sometimes gain a few pounds, but then I get right back on track and deal with life and the reality of where I want to go. You can too. Don't be frightened by it. Life is so great and so worth living. Every day! HUGS. Rita Jorgenson
