Migraines.....Anyone have them and are they worse?
Hi everyone. One wee****il surgery! I am so nervous and excited. Normal I know.
I suffer from chronic, severe migraines and I was wondering if anyone else suffers from them as well? If so, do you find them getting better, staying the same or worse than before? I have been to the ER 2 times in the last 4 days for shots of Morphine, Toradol, etc. I am sure that stress does not help matters any. I have degenerative arthritis in my neck and it makes it difficult to sleep on my back for any length of time as it exacerbates my migraines. I am kind of worried about having to lay on my back after the surgery. I have gotten a body pillow in hopes that I might be able to lay on my side and that might help matters a bit. I think I am rambling again......
Anyway, just curious about any of you that suffer from migraines. Thanks a lot.
Rachella
Rachella, I used to get migraines, so I can sympathize. While you're in the hospital they will probably give you morphine, anyway, to control the pain the first day. The degenerative arthritis in your neck sounds really awful for you.
I think the body pillow is a good idea. I know that in my hospital they didn't want you to lay down flat, anyway. They said you had to lay at an angle. The only thing that helped me there was that I could raise the foot of the bed for better support.
As for laying on your side, I was afraid to at first, but then a nurse came in and asked if I was laying on my side. I said no. She said why not? And I just looked at her and said...pain? So I tried it once I got home, and it was heaven! Of course, I went home without a drain, so that made a difference.
The other thing I'd suggest is a horseshoe shaped pillow for your neck. I didn't have one so I used an extra blanket rolled up and placed behind my neck. That helped, but I kept wishing I'd brought a horseshoe pillow.
Hope this helps.
