Surgery Date Rescheduled
Hi all, I was supposed to have surgery on Oct. 4, but it was changed to Oct. 16 due to cir****tances I am not aware of dealing with the surgean. The other surgean that does these is going to work people in on a Saturday. I am a little nervous but excited at the same time to finally get it done. One thing that disturbs me is the fact that no one has mentioned any kind of pre surgery things for me to do such as enema, diet, etc. Is this normal? Would the enema thing be something they would do at the Hospital? Totally confused here.
First off, congratulations on getting another date that wasn't too far down the road!
As for the pre-surgery instructions, each surgeon has his/her own protocol, but mine had me meet with her about a week and a half before the surgery and gave me my instructions. I had to have a bowel prep 2 days before surgery, and be on clear liquids for 2 days before surgery. I also had to go the the hospital for my pre-admitting and labwork, along with an EKG.
Do you have another appointment with your surgeon scheduled before your surgery date? If not, it might be a good idea to call his office and ask the nurse if there are any requirements that you haven't been told about yet.
Hope this helps.

Hi! My surgery is coming up too and the only thing my surgeon said is that I should fast the night before! No diet, no bowel prep, nothing... so don't worry. But, if it eases your mind don't hesitate to call your surgeon's office, that is what they are there for! Some surgeons just don't require it!
Good luck and have a wonderful recovery!

Don't feel bad my date was rescheduled also due to me needing an upper gi series. My test came back positive for H-pylori. My surgery was to be for tomorrow. But thank God I have a date of 10/20/2004. My preop is tomorrow. Just wanted to wish you luck and you may wanna check on the prep thing. I was told nothing to eat but clear liquids the 2 days prior to my surgery.
