Hi, 1- My doc did not recommend a pre-op diet. So I am working on getting rid of some of the fattening foods that I have in my house now. 2- Right now I'm trying to prep my apartment for when I come back. I was also thinking that I should start packing a small bag for the hospital. My list will include -a Big terry cloth robe, -slippers, (Although I have some slip on sneaker type sandals that would also work and do double duty...) -2 nightgowns even though they might want you in a hospital gown. -Toothbrush/paste -Hairbrush -Maybe a kerchief or ball cap for my hair (you probably won't be showering in there.) -Maybe some make-up... -a book -Cell phone & charger (hospitals may not want you to have one, but I don't care) -Maybe $10 in singles for incidentals, nothing more than that. -I'm leaving all jewlery at home. (I might wear some fake earrings... 3- My surgery is 10/19 and I am thinking what do I need to do pre-op. I am going to a pre-op meeting this week. I hope they give me some advice on what to buy for protein powders, vitamins, etc. 4- I want a nice big prime rib or rib steak before I go for surgery... Good luck with everything. Cindy

1- Did your Doctor recommend a pre-op diet? No - I hear that a lot of doctors do recommend a pre-op diet, although mine hasn't. Basically his nurses told me to start taking my daily vitamins, up my dose on Vitamin C so I don't get a cold or anything, and to start drinking plenty of water so I am hydtrated the day of surgery. Then of course I have to have only clear liquids and the fleet the day before. 2- What are you taking to the hospital? I have a list of things actually. *Terry Cloth Robe *Slippers *Make-up *Face Wash *Body Wash (we get to shower) *note pad and pen (so my Mom/Sister/husband can write down who comes to visit since I will more then likely forget) *toothbrush/tooth paste *small pillow *chap stick *A childs sippy cup (so when I am allowed water I remember not to gulp) *lounge pants and top for the day I go home. (that is probably what I will wear to the hospital) *Clean underwear *digital camera (I want pictures for myself - I want to see what I looked like when I was out of it! haha) 3- What pre-op foods did you buy? I haven't bought much for before surgery because my doctor didn't put me on any special pre-op diet - but for post op I bought crystal light, sugar free pudding and jello, sugar free carnation instant breakfast, instant mashed potatoes (for after liquid diet), sugar free popsicles, and a small variety of protein shake powders from health haven (a local health food store).I also have been taking Scooby Doo kids chewable daily vitamins with extra calcium. 4- What will be your "last meal"? I told my husband Outback Steakhouse as well!! haha!! I want the biggest juiciest steak our money can buy! A huge helping of garlic mashed potatoes or baked potatoe loaded. A huge salad. yummmmmmm. I also want to go to IHOP because it is my favorite breakfast place in the world.

I have 48 hours to go... Pre-op diet, normal breakfast and lunch, but no food after 1pm tomorrow. Take to Hospital- A FAN!!! the most important for me... notepad and pen to write questions/thoughts that I will likely forget slippers pads (I am told it is likely the period will start after surgery) soft "jogging" type bras...I am uncomfortable without a bra Underwear Chapstick Hand cream PUFFS kleenes (hospital stuff is terrible) A little rubbermaid type basket to put the little necessities in so I can get to them easier List of phone numbers for my husband to make calls afterwards Groceries--I have ordered lots of samples from Bariatriceating.com gatorade, cottage cheese, instant mashed potatoes, cheeses Last Meal?? I am so excited now, I have absolutely no appetite....maybe pizza? Good luck everyone, I will be praying for all of you!

My only pre-op diet was to lose 10 pounds (which I did). Two days before surgery (today) I take the bowel prep (yuck). I'm on clear liquids only for 2 days before surgery. When I went for pre-admission at the hospital, they told me not to bring anything because the hospital will provide it all. But I'm bringing deodorant, clean underwear, my CPAP, and a book that I probably won't read. I have Crystal Lite, s/f jello, protein powders and had my prescriptions for post-op filled. I had my last meal last night. It was ham, baked beans, corn and applesauce. Tomorrow I will travel the 6 hours for my surgery, which will be the following day at 9:00 am. Just curious, did anyone else's surgeon require that for one week before surgery you take 2 showers a day with antibacterial soap and brush your teeth several times a day? I was kind of surprised at the pre-op class when they announced this. I've been doing it, but my skin is getting so dry from the soap rather than the gel I usually use. ~Cathy

Just out of curiosity I wanted to know the following: 1- Did your Doctor recommend a pre-op diet? Nope, I am just supposed to fast before surgery. 2- What are you taking to the hospital? Im not totally sure, but I think I will be taking lip balm, listerine strips, facial cleansing cloths, my journal, toothbrush, a magazine(just in case), and a small fan. I think I will also bring a calling card since cell phones are off limits. That should be everything, but I may be forgetting something. 3- What pre-op foods did you buy? I bought crystal light, SF jello, broth cubes, SF kool Aid, chewable vitamins, apple juice, sugar free cream savers and other hard sf candys, sf popcicles, decaf green tea, splenda, and I am most likely forgetting something! 4- What will be your "last meal"? I am hoping it to be red lobster!
