Hi Guys, My surgery is the 18th of this month, and the only thing I am nervous about is waking up with the endotracheal tube still in my throat. Its happened before when I had my gall bladder out so it kinda freaked me out.. any thoughts from some of you post ops?? Thanks a ton Robin R

Oh, boy. My surgery is on the 27th, and I didn't think I was going to wake up with a tube down my throat. Oh, yuck!!! Good luck, Robin. I know we'll get through this just like so many others have.

You're not SUPPOSED to wake up with it, it does happen sometimes, and that why I'm a bit afraid. So relax, we'll probably BOTH be fine! Robin R

Robin, That's okay - more than likely it will already be removed before we wake up. You didn't make me any more nervous than I was before - just natural I guess. I would love to hear from you before and/or after surgery. Email me anytime. I wish you a safe surgery. Best Wishes, Rachella

Hi Robin, I'm in the same boat as you, my surgery is Oct 18th and my biggest fear is waking up with that horrible thing in me. I think i'm so scared because my Mom had to have one for an extended time while she was sick. It was so intimidating. I know it is a small price to pay for the big prize, and won't it be even better if we don't have it in when we wake up! Take care and I will keep you in my thoughts & prayers on the 18th! Elaine

Had my surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago. Never even knew the tube was in me. It was gone before I came to! I woke up as I was being wheeled down the corridors between the operating room and my room! The first week was uncomfortable but once I got the jp tube out I was feeling great! Down 30 lbs. and happy!

My anesthesiologist has told me that I WILL indeed be waking up with the tube down my throat (along with an NG tube, 2 drains, and a catheter). Since I have hypertension and a touch of sleep apnea, they need to make sure I am breathing on my own before they take it out, to be on the safe side. If you do wake up with one -- They made sure to remind me not to freak out and try to rip it out on my own, or panic.. Just realize you're ok, breathe on your own normally, relax, and wait for the docs to OK removing it. Either way, you will be fine, and so will I Best of luck!
