Hey Lisa! Sometimes all the tests and crap we have to go through before having this surgery gets a little tedious. And I know - it is frustrating and sometimes seems like it isn't worth it. BUT - I really honestly think that (most surgeons) order all of these tests to ensure our safety and well being on the operating table. They want to make sure our lungs are ok so that they can keep us breathing. They want to make sure we don't have cancer so that they don't cause it to grow due to surgery. They want to make sure our hearts are strong enough to live through surgery. If they didn't take every precaution, and one of their patients died on the operating table - they could be forced to never practice medicine again. I'm not a doctor, or a nurse, or in the health field at all but I know that I was willing to take whatever test my surgeon or doctors asked me to take - because I want to make sure I am not harming myself by making this choice to have the surgery. With that said - What tests are they requesting you take? I'm young and don't have a history of any medical problems so far - no really serious ones anyway. I had to have an EKG, A Lung X Ray, A Pelvic exam (I have a lot of female problems), and various blood work tests. Like I said, I know it is a pain in the butt - but think positive and don't get too discouraged. A year from your surgery date you will look back and be glad you did it all. I will keep you in my prayers. Please keep us posted!!!

I'll try and defend them (since I am a nurse). They are in charge. It is really important that you all "get along." It doesnt' really matter "why", pretty much "because they said so". They really don't get kick backs, unless they own the lab, xray departments. It is the insurance company that demands so much. Also- the doc's want to have good success records, so they are being careful. I just look at is as a really thorough physical. If insurance is paying for surgery, they should pay for all the pre-op testing too, at least that is my understanding. Please try and trust that they really have no reason to do anyting but the best for you!!! If you truly don't trust them, it is time to find a new doctor, and quick!!! good luck!
