I am having surgery on the 13th, but my scheduled vacation is right before that. My last day at work is th 6th and I told them not to expect me bac****il at least the 15th of November, but I if I need more I am able to take it. Are you going to be getting disability? Jennifer.

Yeah. I am getting short term disability. The company I work for (Northrop Grumman) is really great. My Surgeon wrote me a note to be out for 10 weeks, and my boss told me to take the entire 10 if I needed to. 100% pay will continue for me for 5 weeks - it is based on how long you have worked there. Then I will pick up 80% pay for the remaining 5 weeks. I will go crazy sitting at home so I think Im going to take 4 weeks and then go back.

I'll be gettting disability as well, which DOES help with the amount of time that you stay out.. though it is not 100% or my regular pay.. from what I understand and by doing that disability calculater on the Social Security page, I should be getting around 3/4 of my regular pay.. not too bad. What also helps though is my Union. We are completely covered for any surgery and we cannot lose our job no matter how long we stay out! Go crazy at home?? Really? LOL, I am looking forward to surgery just so I can have some time off! Jennifer.

With Lap RNY, I am taking 4 weeks off. I do not have short term disability, but have been saving my accrued time, I have 6 weeks worth on the books, so if I need to take more I can do that. Good luck to all of you on your upcoming surgeries... Jennifer

I'm only going to be able to take off a week. I bet I won't be very productive when I get back. And I know it won't be full day. Joanne

My doc keeps saying at the meetings that those with an office job can go back after 3-4 weeks. My job involves lifting so I was planning on taking 5-6. So his office sends my fmla form back to me with a two week expected return. Go figure. I have 6+weeks accrued. I'll go back when I am good and ready. I have no intention of tearing anything. Jill

Hi Tiffany! I work up until the 11th of October, have my surgery 12th of October. I'm scheduled to return to work on the 24th of October. I'm hoping and planning on a complication free lap rny surgery. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Hope this helps.. Craig
