Hi Korrie, I have acid reflux (GERD). I have been taking medication for it for over a year and hope that the WLS will get rid of it. The symptoms are heartburn, more severe than "normal" heartburn, and pain in the chest at times, so severe that it prevents eating. It just feels like the food is stuck and you can't swallow it down. Also, it gets worse at night when you're trying to sleep. You are awakened with severe heartburn that hurts clear up into your throat. You can try sleeping with a wedge so that your head is elevated, but if you do have GERD, you really need to be treated by a doctor. It's not something you can treat on your own. Hope this helps. ~Cathy
