HEY EVERYONE!! Just wondering...kind of taking a poll rather...how long will you guys stay out of work after you have surgery next month??? I am a correctional officer and plan to take 8 weeks. Is this normal? I know it's a long time, but I have the time and the short term disability...so I was just wondering...when do you all plan to return to work??? HUGS! Tatum

I have it planned to be off from the 12th to the 24th. If everything goes well this should be ok, i don't dig ditches at work or anything too strenuous. Craig

I intend to stay off work as long as the Dr. will let me. I'm in no rush at all to get back. I commute by bus into San Francisco, and the thought of possibly getting sick on the bus terrifies me. So I'll be off as long as the Dr. will let me be Are you having open or lap surgery?? I'm having lap on Oct. 12th. Good luck!!!! Renee*

Hello, My surgery is on 10/20 and I requested to be off until 11/12 about 3.5 weeks. My surgeon only gave me a letter for two weeks off pending follow-up after surgery. I have a desk job so I plan to God willing be back by the 3rd week, to leave some sick time for any doctor's appointment's I may have after surgery. My shor-term doesn't kick in until after 6 weeks so it serves me no purpose. If you got the time, I think 8 weeks is great! The more time we have to adjust I think the better.

Hey! My doctor gave me a note for up to 10 weeks after surgery. My short term disability kicks into effect the first day I'm out and I'll get paid the entire time I am out. At first I only planned to take 2 weeks (I'm an engineer so I don't do anything strenuous) but I may take the whole 10. The day I would be scheduled to come back would be during our "Holiday Shutdown" so I wouldn't be bac****il after the new year. That means if I lose enough weight, I could give everyone a huge shock!!!

Hi Tatum! Girl, if you've got the time, take it! Seriously, since I'm not on my feet or doing strenuous work, my surgeon thinks I'll be back at work within 2 weeks. You may want to plan some fun outings for part of your time off. Since you probably won't feel bad after the second week, you might get cabin fever. Have fun!

I am having an open DS on 10-5, taking off until 10-27 (all the time I have) My surgeon says no restrictions at the 6 week point. He said I may be able to do desk work in 2 weeks. He also said patients tend to "need" as much time off as they have coming to them!" HA HA
