As my date is getting close I've been doing a different type of research. I'm checking the memorials for problems people had that lead to death. I want to avoid as many problems as I can. It looks like its importanted to get all test done before especially the sleep apnena. I have been on a c-pap for several years so no problem. The second reason is blood clots. Is there something that can prevent them? And I'm wondering if I should write a letter incase of death. Morid in a way but I want all basis covered. What do others think?

I would ask your surgeon what they are doing for possible blood clots. I am 10/05/04 WLS and have some of the same thoughts. A will and living will for anyone is always a good idea. Keep in touch and good luck to all.

I was kind of wondering the same things you are. I have been researching all the good and bad results of the surgery. It is always a good thing to educate yourself - especially on something this important. I feel like knowing the bad stuff is just as important as knowing the good so that you can have a realistic mind set. I made a list of everyone who is close to me, family and friends, and have been writing letters to each of them in case something happens to me. I was wondering if that was weird as well?? Oh well if it is - i want everyone to know how much I love them.

No, I have researched the same things. My surgery is on 10/20, I asked my doctor what they do to avoid blood clots and that's where the compression socks come in and the tube in your nose after surgery. I was also told to do deep breath exercises to make your lungs stronger. I do it just in case, every little bit helps. As far as letters I have written all my family members letters just to let them know how much I love them. I try to think positive as my friends tell me and pray! Good Luck, I know the closer I get the more anxious I grow!

Betty, You aren't weird at all. None of us know the time we have on this Earth and surgery is just another adventure. Everyday of your life make sure the people you love the most know it. Its good to be prepared no matter what the day holds in store, we could be hit by a bus walking down a street or a brick falling from a ten story building. Keep a positive attitude and smile. My doctor said that they can teach you to give yourself blood thinning shots at home if clots could be a problem. But that only happens in a few scenarios. Good luck... Joan
