Hi everyone! I am close to my goal weight (4 lbs.!) but my body fat percentage is still really high (30%). MY bathroom scale measures body fat, as does my surgeons (and they read about the same). I'm kicking up my exercise (I've had a bum knee and haven't been doing too much in recent weeks) to see if I can get this moving downward. Anyway, my current % indicates I have 50 lbs. of fat still on my body, which freaks me out! I'm curious what percentage some of you are at....especially those that are 20 lbs. or less to goal. Anyone care to share? I'm not really sure what a normal percentage is supposed to be....I think 20 - 25% for a woman is common. Anyone else concerned about their percentage? I think exercise is the only remedy...anyone know? Have a great day!! Kathy 294/159/155 5' 8 1/2"

I'm boring...water or decaf iced tea! I've had "flat" pop a few times, but don't enjoy it much (my doctor allows it after 6 mos. post-op) I'm allowed to drink alcohol, but was warned never to drive when drinking because I'd get drunk very quickly. I know that we have to watch the sugar content closely...things like wine coolers or daquiris will make us dump big time. I've had a couple light beers and a vodka and oj (over the past 5 months..not together!) and they did not make me sick...but they gave me a buzz real fast! I'm not much of a drinker, so this isn't a big issue with me. Interestingly, I know of someone who became an alcoholic post-op. She replaced her over indulgence of food with an over indulgence of alcohol. She said she was to the point of drinking 1/2 gallon on vodka everyday!! She said her doctor said that the malabsorption from the surgery probably saved her from killing herself! Anyway, she ended up gaining alot of weight....is now not drinking, is exercising and back following pouch rules to get the weight back off. Anyway, interesting story, I thought. Kathy

Hi Pamela, Great Name!!! I stopped drinking alcohol in my twenties after super indulging in it when I was 21. I can't stand the stuff now. My favorite drinks are Crystal Light Peach Ice Tea and Slightly Sweet Chai Tea cold over ice with a little carb countdown non-fat milk. Yummy. ~Pamela S.

What is your favorite non-alcoholic drink now that you are post-op? And while I'm on that subject... I was told by my surgeon to never drink alcohol again but so many post WLS people that I've talked to do... what were you told?

Very seldom do I hear negatives although my mother (86) says I need to gain some weight. I do hear some odd things though as easily share my RNY experience with almost everyone. A woman who visited my web site posted the following in my guest book that pretty much sums up the negatives of the people who just don't "get it." ========================= "I guess I'm confused why you have to have surgery before you begin to eat properly. Why don't you eat properly first. Why would you want to be forced to eat properly because now you are unable to digest food properly? I don't understand your logic." ========================== As far as attention goes, who the heck looks at guys? : )

I do get much more attention now than I use to. At times it's irritating, at times it's not. Guess it depends on my "mood!"

Jane, I know what you mean....and I find it annoying. I wish I knew how to respond to these people. I man is someone I work with, and now he's friendly, whereas before he wouldn't even look at me. On the other hand though...and I hate to admit it...but over the weekend I went somewhere and there was a person who was super morbidly obese and I found myself glancing and looking away......obviously a different reaction than to a "normal" person. I was shocked with myself. I now feel bad for MO people and just want to tell them about WLS, but don't want to hurt anyone either. Anyway, I'm seeing "the other side of the coin", and wonder how many other people used to "feel sorry" for me!! No wonder they're so complimentary now!! Kathy

I guess I really can't say I have an attitude. But, I do get annoyed when someone compliments me profusly... I want to say, Alright!! I get the point!!! LOL You'd think I'd love to hear it but I don't. I've never been able to accept a compliment. But, I'm trying to get better. Pam

Hey Guys, Did/does anyone have an attitude with the people who didn't "SEE" us before our surgery, but can "SEE" us now that we're thin? I sure did! I guess it was a phase, but I would get really angry with people who couldn't see me when I was 362lbs., but can see me now! I forgive them. Your WL Buddy, Jane
