Today is my 1 year anniversary.. I'm down 130 lbs and feeling GREAT! As I reflect back on this past year.. I find myself filled with Joy and Hope for the rest of my life. As I am sure all of you feel the same way. WLS saved my life.. Everything is so positive in my life right now. Even though I did not quite make my goal of being at or under 200 lbs on my 1 yr anniversary.. I am so very pleased and proud of my accomplishment of 130 lbs. I'm very greatful for this website it has been a blessing through my journey. Congratulations to ALL of my OCTOBER BUDDIES... we made it 1 yr and we all have done so wonderful. Topic: Here I am....
In my wildest dreams did I ever expect life to change the way it has. Although I still have a ways to go, I am thankful for this surgery and what it's done for me. I started this journey, like most of you, with little hope and thanks to all of my AMOS family, it happened. I Hope all my October friends are doing well. October 28th (today) is my one year anniversary also! I celebrated early (last month) by going on a Meditteranean cruise. How great to be in Europe and not daunted by all the walking and stair climbing! It was my third time there and it amazed me how much difference the weight loss made. My best friend had surgery on the same day - seems like 10/28/03 changed a lot of peoples' lives. Sure am glad that I was one of them! Happy Anniversary to us all! Jeannie 295/189/150

Hi Susan, My year anniversary was on the 24th and I celebrated by going on a 15 mile bike ride in the morning. Then in the afternoon, I went hiking with a guy that I am dating. We also went out for dinner at a cute restaurant; I had a small salad with chicken on it. It was the perfect day...spent quality time with a friend doing healthy things for myself. Deb 250/144

Hi Joe First of all, Happy anniversary!!! I would say that it takes me 20 or more minutes to eat a steak or chicken breast. Sandwiches, I have to remind myself to slow down. Sometimes I get back to my old habits, but for the most part I have slowed down, with the help of this wonderful surgery. I agree with Kathy about mixing foods while we eat. It seems to make it easier for food to digest. Jane

I'm a vegetarian so I don't eat any of those things! It does take me 20 minutes to eat a regular sized banana with 1T peanut butter. 15 minutes to eat a 6oz container of yogurt. Amy -148

Hi Joe, Overall I'm able to eat pretty quickly. Somethings take longer cuz they require more chewing, like steak or chicken breast. Just for comparison sake, here's my best guesstimate: a sandwich (I rarely eat two slices of bread..usually "open face") - probably only about 5 minutes, unless its thick then longer steak (I probably could only eat about 4 oz.) - 20 minutes Chicken breast (3 oz. is about it) - 10 minutes or so. It's hard to guess really because I'm a "mixer".....one or two bites of steak, a bite of potato, bite of steak, bite of veggie, etc. I've found that "mixing" my bites seems to agree with my pouch better...with the exception of salad...then I think too much air or liquid gets in there. I worry about eating too much (I rarely get full), so my doctor has suggested just eating with the rest of the family..when they're done, I'm done. It seems to work about that way, too! Kathy

Congratulations Beth on all of your successes! I come from a hunting family (don't hunt myself though) but I hope that your hunting experience is successful and fun. The ability to now be able to walk through the woods must be exhilirating. Have a great time! Best Regards, Sharon -120#
