Topic: Not A Slow Looser After All!!!
Hey All, I went to my doctors appointment today. I had originally been told 4 weeks ago i was loosing too slow and that put me in a MAJOR funk of course. At anyrate, I went today only to find out they had been calculating my stats based on my original weight from the consult. Well I had my consult last January and did not have surgery until October. I was 317 in January but 336 in October and they were using the wrong numbers. So what does that mean? I am over half of my goal weight in less than 6 months. That made me feel so much better. I had been dreading this day, because I was so worried about how I was doing in the doctors eye. Today was the best appointment I had since the initial consult. I am so happy to realize that I am doing ok. I still need to keep it up, but at least that puts me in a different mind frame. Thanks for listening. Adrienne

How many grams of protein you need depends on what kind of surgery you had...proximal, medial, or distal RNY. Most of us have proximal RNY's. Normal women need a MINIMUM of 60 grams of protein a day...men 80 grams. Since a portion of our surgery prevents us from digesting and consequently absorbing much from food, the guesses on how much we are actually getting each day range from 50% on down. SO, if you need at least 60 grams of protein, and you will probably malabsorb at least half of the protein from food, then you need a reliable source of protein you can count on. I do two high quality blended whey protein shakes a day (I'm proximal at 125 cm bypassed) which gives me the 60 grams in the most absorbable form I can possibly get. Then I eat foods that usually add up to another 60 grams. I know I am getting at least the minimum protein requirement, and hopefully more. I have fun with food and enjoy the flavors and textures but I don't count on it to give me all I must have. Sandra 5 months post-op, 105 lb lost 317/212/175

I had thin hair to begin with and now wow. I had long hair before never wore it short in my life now I do. Yesss Hair loss is very hard to through but I do not mind as long as the weight loss continues. I was going to go and get a wig anything but you know what it is only for a short time and I can deal with that.

Well, congradulations to all of you. You have done great. I want to be below 170 pounds and that means I have to loose 9 pounds by the 24th. I came across a "plateau breaking diet". I think I will start that on Monday. It worked for me the last time. If you are interested in it let me know. Karen

Congratulations Ladies!!! And Happy Anniversary too! I'd like to make 92 pounds by my 6 month anniversary. I'm shooting for the century club on May 21. That's our sons wedding day. It would be great to say that the weight I lost (100 pounds), I gained in a daughter in law! RNY 10/31/03 - 257/175/150

Thanks. I need about 26 pounds to my goal. I am so excited for summer to come. I can not believe I am actually saying this but I can not wait to go and buy some swimming suits. Yes swimming suits. Water intake is a big problem for me to. But everyday is a challenge especially when you feel like you do not eat enough and that darn scale does not move. Oh well tomorrow is another day.
