Topic: Best and worst
Hi all, I just wanted to get us talking again so I thought I would ask what is the best and worse thing that has happened since WLS? Here goes mine. best - the look on my famillys face when they seen me at Easter time. They were all so very shocked. worst - that I still crave things I can not ever have again like my beloved Coke and Pepsi. Have a nice day all! Tanya -108

Topic: RE: Plastic Surgeons????
I had a consult three weeks ago. The surgeon has done many GB patients and refuses to do surgery until your weight loss has stopped and been stable for 6 weeks at the very least. His reasons? He says no matter what the blood work says, you are somewhat anemic while you are still losing weight which causes you to heal slower or poorly. That's okay, I went early with the intention of starting the insurance process because my insurance says reconstructive surgery has to be done within 12 months of the 'injury'. As it turns out, they won't pay for a darn thing anyway, but I'm going to pay out-of-pocket because I decided that I've gone this far, dang it, and I'm worth it. I'm planning a circumferencial abdominoplasty, breast lift with augmentation (done at the same time (cheaper) and then bat-wings after that. I'm not doing a thigh-lift because although there is a lot of loose skin, it doesn't hang around my knees, so I can wear shorts without a lot of notice. The thigh-lift surgery (I'm told) is harder to heal and leaves a pretty nice scar, so when you wear your swimsuit, it's a choice between loose skin or noticable scars. $8750 for tt and breast lift, $3000 for bat-wings (that's everything - including bandaids). Look for a surgeon that has done patients that have lost large amounts of weight and will at least try to get insurance coverage. Make them show you the good, bad and ugly pictures so you have a realistic idea of what your scars and outcome might be. BTW: I'm 5'8", 144 lbs., down 116 lbs. Good Luck! Patty

Topic: RE: Help! Is this "sick" feeling normal?
Terry, to begin with I think your weight loss is probably right where you should be. As for the "full feeling" I get that often also and sometimes after a few bites have to puke, but can come back and usually eat. When this happens, I usually will eat my baked beans which I usually have on hand because that is one thing I have no problem eating. I have some problems with beef, and chicken but pork is my friend!! I can eat sausage, Italian sausage, smoked sausage, short ribs and pork loins, where as with chicken, chicken tenders are about the only kind I can eat unless I make a chicken pot pie and that most of the time will stay down. I have been at a lot of plateaus and now can not do the treadmill because of my back, so 5-6 lbs a month would be a blessing for me. My suggestion on your food is try using smaller bites, remember no drinking with your meal and try and get your protein in first. I think you have done great. Marilyn

I'm late responding, but I'll do it anyway to add to the totals Preop - 349 Current - 217 Loss to date - 132 My next mini goal is to be below 200, and my current "end" goal is 180, but I may re-evaluate when I get close to it. My real goal is to fit into any size 12 jeans/pants. I'm currently in 14/16! Amy Lap RNy 10/22/03

I too had complications - NOTHING like yours, but complications none-the-less. I have "issues" with food now and then myself. I just can't seem to get it in once in a while. I do from the feeling too. I'm so thankful it's not often though. I can really only speak to the latter portion of your post. I'm only 15 pounds away from the bottom of goal. I met the top goal yesterday, so "in theory" I could stop today. Don't want to because I want a little more. HOWEVER, my weightloss has dropped to about 6 pounds a month the past few months. My Dr's office says it's normal. I too do not have a Dr. I visit regarding my surgery as my surgeon is in another state. I will however be visiting him in October/November. Good luck on this quest...

Hi Shawn, I have a consultation with a plastic surgeon on Monday the 28th for breast reduction and lift..So far,my insurance says it will cover all but 20% I had lap band surgery on Oct. 28 and have lost 60lbs so far..Lap banding is a little slower to lose weight, but I am glad I had it...If my consultation goes well, I will be scheduling my surgery for November of 2004...I have Medica insurance..

1. Down 135 pounds from my highest weight pre-surgery. 2. Off most of the meds I was on for High BP and Type 2 Diabetes. Replaced by vitamins, calcium, B-12 pills that are easier to take. 3. Walk 3 miles nightly. 4. Got a puppy right after surgery and I'm able to take care of him and play with him. 5. Caught my kids 'bragging' about their cool, 'skinny' mom! 6. Not afraid to try booths in restaurants any more. 7. Able to wear sexier new clothes. 8. Pants/Dress size was a tight 34, now 22 (and getting loose!). 9. Got contacts - don't need to hide my chubby cheeks behind glasses... 10. Able to wear a bathing suit at the pool and not feel that everyone is staring at me. 11. Eating better than ever - salads with protein, fruit salads, lighter meals and feeling very satisfied. 12. No hair loss! (YEA!) 13. Having my hubbie be able to put his arms all the way around me and give me a good hug! 14. Looking at pre-op pictures and wondering how I ever let myself get to that point!
